Mike Mearls: A Paladin, Ranger, and Wizard With Arcane Tradition Walk Into A Tavern

Yeah, when I first started up my 3rd Ed Planescape campaign 7 years ago, I gave the players absolute freedom, which was cool, but later on someone joined and made a Divine Bard 4/Fighter 1/Battlesmith 1/Deepwarden 2/Dwarf Paragon 1/Hammer of Moradin 4, and it got a bit silly, and then came high...

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

    1) Not weird at all, just because you don't agree does not make it weird; throwing 5th level monsters against a 15th level party in 4th Ed is pretty much totally ineffectual. 2) Helps with the above scenario.

    D&D 5E (2014) Playtest This: Red Dragon

    Isn't it 24 (storm giant)?

    How many "subclasses"/builds per class?

Not for me, thanks, I prefer a more Bannor/Bloodguard approach. I prefer Wuxia as a campaign style, even the wizard is bouncing off of walls, sleeves through the clouds!

Mike Mearls: A Paladin, Ranger, and Wizard With Arcane Tradition Walk Into A Tavern

This is the first time I have been disappointed with their future plans, the only part I dig is Tieflings no longer being of Devilish ancestry only, I like the broader Planetouched deal (I have one of Yugoloth descent as a major antagonist in my current campaign). Oh, the rogue options sound okay.

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

I can see this boils down to you digging on 4th Ed D&D more than me (so this could go on forever), totally cool, we'll leave it at that. Removing the 1/2 level bonus from all character's and monster's Attacks, Defences and Skills makes a nice difference in 4th Ed, IME.

D&D 5E (2014) How much should 5e aim at balance?

Total. The Paladin should be the best out of beating the "living" crap out of demons. I'm hoping for feind joy with the 5th Ed (sorry, cannot call it D&D Next, makes it sound like a brand of soda...) Paladin.

    How many "subclasses"/builds per class?

This whole class thing has gotten out of hand, one man's "...this is not nearly enough classes!" is the next guy's "...what, way too many!". All very personal at times, I think as long as they keep the core 4 (which, most concepts are realised through, not all, before they start) as flexible as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

    1) I'm not saying they can't develop, I once threw a 10th level Orc Fighter against a player in a Solo campaign back in 1988 (but surely, every orc isn't a 10th level Fighter, conveniently; and sorry, for calling you Shirley), but your average ogre is not 15th level just because you are. 2)...

    Blue Dragons: Sand or Sea

    My favourite D&D dragon!

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

I disagree, monsters are not characters (yes, I know you can play a Treant Monk), they do not generally adventure and gain XP. Let's say a wight is a HD/level 4 monster, it shouldn't conveniently be a higher HD/level to challenge the party, a wight should always be a problem. Speaking of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Maybe D&D Should Branch?

The best tweak I implemented after DMing about 7 sessions was removing the 1/2 level bonus from all character's and monster's Attacks, Defences, and Skills (if you need to roll an 11 to hit, does it matter if the bonus is +7 or +17?)

More Than Just a Shaggy Ogre

So you would have a minotaur for every campaign setting? And they don't need to be in every campaign setting. *looks at 4th Ed Dark Sun*

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

Mine don't, an efreeti is an efreeti; and I find it less interesting when the ogre you fought at level 5 is suddenly tougher when you bump into it 5 levels later, just to conveniently keep up with the party, thank god they are remedying this in 5th Ed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Changes in Interpretation

Which i don't really dig, why would a trap conveniently level up with the party. The rolling boulder is what it is in Indy.

Of course, we don't need 5 different Ropers, each with a rich backstory/history.

    Class list for PHB

Have they stated the base game is levels 1 -10, after that it changes (becomes Epic or what-have-you)?

And the Alu-Demon; see, these things mean something.

    Class list for PHB

I doubt (hope) D&D will ever go class-less (or race-less), I seriously doubt we will see: Adventurer: choose your crap.
