D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

anyway, it makes little difference in regard to standard whips, because CDG saves are 10 + damage dealt, which would make it either 11 or 12...

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

"You can use a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, including an unarmed strike, to deal lethal damage instead, but you take a -4 penalty on your attack roll." doesn't this apply to whips? i know there's a PrC (either Bloodhound or Justicar, i can't remember) that removes this penalty, but i...

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

yeah, apparently, it's a weapon that gains no benefits from being melee, and all the penalties from being ranged.

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

and this makes sense why? i understand the unarmed strike thing. i can't punch someone five feet away because my arms aren't that long; i would have to "enter my opponent's space," thus provoking an AoO. with a whip, not so much.

Silence and the rogue's sneak attack

    flat-footed targets don't normally get AoO's, right?

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

i don't understand. can anyone make sense of this? what's the logic behind defying the rules for just one weapon? from the SRD: "You threaten all squares into which you can make a melee attack, even when it is not your action." even if the whip functioned like a normal reach weapon (like a...

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

from the errata i found last night: "You also can make a trip attack as an attack of opportunity." you can't trip someone from the AoO that comes from standing. also from the errata: "When you try to stand up from a prone position, the attack of opportunity comes before you get back on your...

    lethal combat

i've looked at the True20 damage system (which, i believe, is the same system presented in UA. they just use Fort saves instead of "Toughness"). it seems like a level of complexity that i don't want to add. the mechanic is simple, but it's that much more time spent rolling in-game, which is...

    lethal combat

good call. keen weapons are now disallowed.

Silence and the rogue's sneak attack

sounds like a good resolution. the warning shout would be a free action. dm's discretion whether he had to wait his turn or not.

    lethal combat

yeah, that's well and good, but i'm trying to solve the problem that when one of those goblins stabs a 20th level barbarian through the heart (i.e. crit), it won't even phase him, while at first level he'd be dead and bleeding. "critical" should mean critical, for everybody... as in they'll be...

Silence and the rogue's sneak attack

ah, the garrot. so refreshing to see it make an appearance in d20. where is it? Complete Adventurer or Complete Warrior?

    Dragon + Class levels = ?

IMG, dragons have no inherent spellcasting ability. they also only gain intelligece with age- they start out as beasts, with beastly intelligence. the only way for them to gain spells is by taking classes.

ah. so do the rules say anything about "CDG"-ing while prone?

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

ok, i'm a newb to the boards, so i'm not familiar with all the abbreviations... CDG? um... i believe what i see. granted, i haven't read every page of errata on the WoTC boards, but this is, as far as i can tell, not stated in the corebooks. in fact, the only word on standing from prone is...

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

hmm... i'm not sure i understand what you're saying, and i can't find anything like that in the SRD. you understand that i'm talking about concurrent rounds here, right? i trip on my turn, they get up on theirs, which provokes an AoO. they get up again, next round on their turn, ir provokes...

AoO Q - Cat vs. Commoner

i'm just curious... has this situation actually come up in someone's game? if not... hell, even if so, you're all a bunch of very bored posters. ;)
