    golem crafter?

i'm looking for a PrC that specializes in golem crafting. i know about the Techsmith from F&P, but it's not really what i'm looking for. i want to build an NPC with the ability to craft a colossal biomechanoid. does it exist, or will i have to create it from scratch?

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

the whip's treated differently, for some reason: "Using a whip provokes an attack of opportunity, just as if you had used a ranged weapon." i assume (dangerously) that because you're using the whip for a trip attack instead of a normal melee attack, Improved Trip takes care of this.

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

step 3 comes from the Improved Trip feat, which states the above. am i missing some rules-lawyering?

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

yeah, step 1. the only thing you need it for is the trip bonus... and the style! conversely, you can also use the AoO from step 4 to trip again, and use your next regular action as a full attack against a prone opponent... this could conceivably repeat forever (or at least until you miss your...

D&D 3.x Is there ANY way to make whips good using WotC-only 3.5 material?

as has been discussed, the whip becomes most useful when used by a dual-wielding combatant. i had a ranger who was a whip specialist (with a ligh mace in the off-hand), and it worked like this: 1) ranger trips opponent (no AoO bc of Improved Trip) 2) ranger thwacks opponent on head w/ mace on...

    lethal combat

ok... this "variant" is more trouble than it's worth. it would require a total re-working of the entire system. i would never be able to put my characters up against evokers, or even trolls, for that matter. however, i still want something that puts the fear back in the game. so, this is...

    An idea for defense bonuses...

should "instictive reactions" increase as part of a career path? does a rogue have more "instinct" than a wizard or a fighter? i don't think base save scores reflect inherent ability as written. ability scores, however, do. the DEX ability seems to represent inherent agility and natural...

    looking for fugitive modules/adventures...

anyone played the savage tide adventures? what's the theme? is it heroic? villainous? neutral? could i tweek it to make it fit my fugitive campaign? how much work would it take? thanks, abe.

Help with an NPC orcish ranger

i might consider using levels in Bloodhound from Complete Adventurer; if not the concept, at least some of the class abilities. i once rolled a character that was a mesh between the Bloodhound and the Justicar from Complete Fighter. he was a badass, but he was in it for the money, so he always...

    An idea for defense bonuses...

i don't really think of hp like that, even though i know it refers to it in that way in the corebooks. i believe those defense bonuses are available for fantasy classes as well, in UA. you can find the rules at http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm i don't use this...

    An idea for defense bonuses...

i use reflex as an AC bonus in my game. i think it makes a lot of sense. the AC calculation now looks like this: 10 + REF base save + Dex bonus + Shield Bonus = AC (now referred to as Defense) Armor Bonuses now function as pure DR, while armor check penalties now apply to Defense. This...

    looking for fugitive modules/adventures...

psion, those are fabuloud ideas! now that i think about it, some eps are much more plot-driven than others. i really want that chrichton/scorpius dynamic (actually, i was going for a chrichton/crais dynamic, but it amounts to the same thing: relentless pursuit and recurring villains), and you...

    looking for fugitive modules/adventures...

i actually started out doing this, but i ran into trouble. the Farscape series (or any good series for that matter) is all about character interaction: this is what determines the plot of any given episode. if my PCs react to the circumstances in a different way than the characters in the show...

    lethal combat

should i attempt to re-balance the classes in lieu of the lack of hit die? are fighters and barbarians getting gypped now? does this variant upset balance enough to worry about it? if so, what are some ways i could balance things out again? also, i'm thinking about making hit points equal to...

    experimental magic system: caster check

just an update: i'm now in the process of creating failed check results for each spell in the PHB. some are obvious: fireball blows up in your face, power word blind blinds the caster permanently. some are not so obvious: resurrection raises a zombie on a failed roll, tree shape is permanent...

    White-skinned Drow

i love this concept. my campaign doesn't use "drow" per se, but there are dark elves (who aren't dark-skinned but only dark-hearted). originally, i referred to them as drow, but there was no getting away from gary's concept, and i had altered them so significantly that i decided a name change...

well, i think i found something to my liking: the thieve's world CS. anyone have any experience with this setting? the only problem i can see is that they've only produced one module for it, as far as i can tell. does anyone know of any more? i also found a one-shot called Ring of Thieves...

what can you tell me about... thieve's world?

from what i'm reading on the reviews, this sounds like an excellent CS. anyone played it? are there variant rules? fantasy races? is magic present? rare? commonplace? have any modules been produced besides murder at the vulgar unicorn? thanks, abe.

    looking for fugitive modules/adventures...

well, the ship is kind of the crux of the campaign. it's a bit pilfered: namely from the Farscape sci-fi series. it's alive, and has submarine capabilities. my fave NPC is now permanently bonded to it. i really got tired of the "PCs meet in a tavern and decide to start adventuring together...
