D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I know in 2nd edition it came by having the concept first and the rules second. Not in terms of priority, but it terms of what coformed to what. If the rules didn't fit the concept, you changed the rules not the other way around. All rules were optional. It's the same way now, it's just the...

    My solution

It sounds like 4e is shrinking the playing field so all those who dislike one type of play can dance on its' grave singing merrily as they slouch towards Bethlehem. And all those who like wahoo unrealism can blithely forget whatever tenuous relationship the game had with being another person...

    Falling Damage?

    This is cool.

PHB classes -- why does it matter which ones are included?

It matters which ones are in because everyone is too scared to make classes and races for themselves.

    Can you do inifinite damage?

We use infinite damage to explodite the universe.

    Gamer Law

Do you mean like gold farming and power leveling? I think there already are laws in place for these. Some places. Not in a lot of the asian countries like China where the cost could sustain someone.

    Terraforming a "barrens"

Her PC should recognize the ground won't sustain life with only water. Especially old trees 60 feet tall. They will fall over dead before the year is out. I'd let her try and puzzle it out only pointing out what should be obvious to her character. One solution is Rock to Mud, but that is...

    Have you pre-ordered?

I'll likely buy them, but only after they come out. I'm hoping they go cheap second hand.

    Cascade effect of rule changes

Maybe stat boosting magic items will work like they did in second edition? Instead of having a bonus to strength you get the actual strength score a giant has. I may be misremembering, but belts of giants strength were Str 25 or close to that. I think it could depend on the time of giant too...

Yet Another Benefit of Playing D&D: Dealing with Problem Board Members

Way to go Einan. Those are 5 excellent suggestions. I especially like number three where you state your positions, seek common ground, and then build from there.

    Puzzles in 4th Edition

Sounds interesting, but do you reward XP to one person for getting the answer right or is it group thing? Personally, I love puzzles.

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

I still don't run Vista. I like Ubuntu.

    Fighters -must- wear heavy armor

Haven't fighters been better in heavier armors since the beginning of D&D? I don't see this as a problem. It's practically a tradition. Especially if adding back in d20's max stack system works just as well. By max stack I mean the armor /shield bonuses + dexterity bonus maximums to AC.

Is built-in customization bad for sales?

I don't think they will lose money from this. I think we should applaud them for taking this risk and making the game better for it. The ones who will make the most money in a widely customizable market are going to be the ones who are the most successfully creative. Wizards holds a huge...

D&D 4E 4e HP speculation based on new D&D podcast

I think hit points are random because a lot of things were random in the beginning. Everything wasn't meant to be balanced. I don't think people whined about balance as much either or were as shortchanged by a difference in a level or two between PCs. It sounds like 4th edition will be...

Do you like "off screen" events to be rules-plausible?

I've learned that if they are Piratecat horses, they have the psionic template. :)

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: SINGLE BEST Product of 3rd edition (poll closed)

This poll is so weird. First it was Eberron. Then it was Ptolus. Now it's pathfinder.

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

I like it. It means all squares are now circles like they said in the podcast. If you actually want a square, you have to draw a circle on the map. But I do like it because it's easier. And those who don't can houserule it really simply.

    Static vs. Tailored Encounters

I don't know about you, but my Death Giants almost never take up residence in goblin warrens. I guess you could put me in the static encounters camp because I build everything to fit in the world so it makes sense. Except I also build everything to the preferences of my players. Everything...
