D&D 5E (2014) So How Long Will 5E Last For?

I said this in a previous thread a few days ago, but...I see no need for a 6th edition anytime soon. 5E is going strong with very few issues. I would expect and appreciate a PHB 5.5 in a couple years, but nothing beyond that. It would be a very simple matter to print a 5.5 PHB that fixes the...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls “…it’s now obvious how to live without Bonus Actions”' And 6th Edition When Players Ask

I would not support a 6th edition yet, but a 5.5 PHB in the next year or two would be great. It would not be that difficult to keep it backwards compatible so that all other 5th Edition products work with it. Keep the 5th structure there, just update some of the classes, feats, mechanics and...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls “…it’s now obvious how to live without Bonus Actions”' And 6th Edition When Players Ask

I'd have to see a UA on it to get a better feel for it, but I think so many things benefit from bonus actions. Specifically, actions that certain classes turn into bonus actions, such as the Rogue and Dash, or spells that allow you to do continuing effects or cast as bonus actions, like Bigby's...

D&D 5E (2014) What would you play in this party?

This echos what many others are saying already, but your two holes I see most are lack of a face and nothing nature based. From that, I'd say a Lore Bard or a Land Druid. I'd also suggest a Ranger, but I have a general distaste for Rangers in this edition, both PHB or UA. That being said, play...

D&D 5E (2014) Need Some Help on Druid Build

I love Land Druids. One of the most enjoyable casters in the game. If your DM allowed, it really wouldn't disrupt the character or game that much to let you switch from Moon to Land. All of your abilities are pretty much still there. The play style just switches a bit from shapeshifting to spell...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

There is obviously some disconnect here. 1. You move into melee range with an enemy. 2. You use the Attack Action to attack it with your Rapier (everyone loves rapiers). 3. Hooray! You made a melee attack! Now your enemy loses AoO against you for the rest of your turn thanks to Fancy Footwork...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

I believe in this case, you can have your cake and eat it too. You don't have to make a melee attack to get the Sneak Attack without advantage, you only have to be within 5 feet of the enemy (and no one else with 5' feet). You can make your melee attack (Sneak attack), which gives you the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

I guess I don't see any downside to Swashbuckler using it? Only one ability mentions a melee attack, Fancy Footwork, which you'll still be doing each turn with your main hand. Only instead of an offhand melee attack you make an offhand ranged attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) Swashbuckler

If you're not set on dueling wield with two melee weapons, I would really consider Crossbow Expert and using a hand crossbow. More versatility, attacks at range or in melee, useful for sneak attacks and you'll get to add your dex mod to the damage.

D&D 5E (2014) This is a directory of posters who think the sorcerer needs fixing

I think a couple simple changes could be made to make the Sorcerer more balanced and more unique. Spells Known: You learn one spell known per level, plus additional spells known equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). So at level 20, 20+Cha mod spells known. It makes no sense to me that...

D&D 5E (2014) Which version of the Favoured Soul do you like best?

I don't like any of the current Sorcerer subclasses. I think the only other class I can say that for is the ranger. I think this is part of the driving force for me to get the FS where I want it. This is what I was trying to get at in the UA Revised Classes thread. I said this: I also...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Returns to Monthly With Some Revised Subclasses

That's all true and I understand your point. But by using a domain format you also open up the possibility of allowing non-cleric spells into the mix, such as Druid only spells for the fey or spells that are Wizard only that say Azuth or Oghma bestowed. Those other restrictions already exist...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Returns to Monthly With Some Revised Subclasses

See, I don't see it as limiting in a bad way. Custom domains similar to Druid Land Circles allows you to customize your character in manner consistent with your god. If you want access to the entire cleric spell list, you should have to be a cleric. It's actually limiting in a good way.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Returns to Monthly With Some Revised Subclasses

I like this Favored Soul more then the last. At least it brought some form of wings back. I wish it would approach the cleric spells and automatic cure wounds differently. I like a domain spell approach, but I don't see any reason why it has to be tied to the Cleric Domains. Just give the...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Returns to Monthly With Some Revised Subclasses

These all seem like improvements over their last UA attempt, but I think they still need a little work. Favored Soul is closer, but I still like the first UA Favored Soul the best. Domain spells really capture the aspect of having different deities, not just healing. And some armor and weapon...

D&D 5E (2014) The Shield Spell and Spell Points

I'd expect he would have more fun. He goes from 2 spells a short rest to what, between 2 and 5, 2 and 10 per short rest depending on his level? That upsets the balance of the class and changes what makes it unique from other full casters. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to play their game, but...

D&D 5E (2014) The Shield Spell and Spell Points

This is is entire problem right here. The spell point system is great for normal casters that have multiple slots, because those spell points don't refresh until a long rest. It works contrary to the entire way that a Warlock casting spells is designed, however. A very limited number of spells...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

See, I would imagine that as a Ranger subclass as being fantastic. Instead of getting an animal companion, you become the companion. Make the animal form you transform into level up as you level up, not just make you choose new, more powerful forms as you level. You already have the existing...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls Twitter Poll: "The druid gets one of the following: Spellcasting | Shapeshifting | Animal companions. Choose."

Just because Shapeshifting is unique to the Druid in 5E, doesn't make it the defining aspect of what a Druid is. Spellcasting should be the defining characteristic of the class. I hear Druid, and the thought of a hermit in the woods casting spells is what comes to mind. I kind of wish the...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

I think changing to ability for the halfling to go from improving your ally to impairing your enemy would make more sense from a story telling point of view. I find it harder to justify turning a botch into a potential massive success then to say, making the Feat go "When an enemy you can see...
