    D&D 5E (2014) Making weapon choice matter

I think you already have a system sort of built into the game's weapon table, with Light and Heavy weapons, as well as weapons that don't have either of those properties. If you take those three categories, you could make a modifier to further distinquish them. I think from the standpoint of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

Ok, so what if it gives the half proficiency bonus to AC, but requires your bonus action to activate, lasting until the beginning of your next turn. Gives the option of being a little more offensive, little more defensive, little more mobile, but not being able to do all of those things at the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

I agree, Archon probably tops my list too. I even used it as the name of a capstone for one of the subclasses. I think the one that really got Warden to stick for me was the subclass namings. "Blood Warden" just sounded terrifying.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

Ok, so I'm seeing over and over that people think it is too powerful. I can see that being true. My main purpose to was giving the class an ability to protect itself through magic, as long as they had a free hand or focus to defend themselves. I still like having it be in the format it is and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

I can see how this is an issue, although it is very similar to the features of other subclasses. I could tune it down some. Maybe once per short rest. This is one ability I really want to keep as is. Key to making this class was the ability of the class to enhance their own attacks and add the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

The Paladin was the inspiration for much of how this class works. I'm sure that statement alone is going to fuel hatred. Add in a Gnome with +to Dex and +Int and a Rapier and I may have created the most hated class possible. :D So this ability comes at the same time as a Paladin gets Divine...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

I truthfully struggled a bit with the name. I wanted a one word name like paladin, ranger, cleric, etc, and not a combination of two words like spellsword or mageblade or something. I'm open to suggestions, but warden was the best I could come up with. I did not play 4e so I did not look at past...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

I balanced this two ways. First is comparing it to a fighter with the Two Weapon Fighting fighting style. That's typically 1d6+3 damage a round as a bonus action, so 1d10 is actually less than that. Second, the class is fairly heavy on bonus action options, so it won't be able to do it every turn.

    D&D 5E (2014) Warden

Below is a project I have been working on for a bit, trying to create an Arcane equivalent to the Paladin or Ranger. It is obviously Homebrew, but I could have the chance to use it in the future. Looking for any input, thoughts or criticism from all of you. It gains spells slots as a half...

    D&D 5E (2014) Jack of All Saves

    Hmph. Ok, fair enough.

    D&D 5E (2014) Jack of All Saves

You don't have to include the rounded down part, since all characters prof bonus at level 20 is +6. No way to have a number that is otherwise.

    Fun uses for Flavor Cantrips?

Love Prestidigitation. I soiled a man's pants and convinced the crowd he pissed himself in fear, causing them to take my side in the argument. I flavored a sword as bloody meat and tossed it into a pool of water so the shark would eat it. Ended badly for the shark. I immediately walk out of...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you use Paladin "smite" spells if they were not concentration?

Nope! Your unwavering approval of part of my post was enough!

D&D 5E (2014) Would you use Paladin "smite" spells if they were not concentration?

My apologies. Typo that is supposed to say constitution save. I believe that's what the normal spell uses. I chose reaction over bonus action because it is more similar to the normal divine smite ability. I think taking the paladin's bonus action away is too great of a change and nerf, when...

But you did like some of it! I must be on to something then!

D&D 5E (2014) Would you use Paladin "smite" spells if they were not concentration?

It's been mentioned at least part already, but I would really enjoy seeing these changes: 1. The smite spells do not require concentration. 2. They are cast as a reaction when you hit with an attack. 3. Remove the class ability of divine smite (keep the bonus 1d8 damage at 11). 4. Improve the...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Shadow Blade be your Chosen Hex Warrior weapon?

For me the end of a long rest meets two conditions. 1. Characters have actually rested, ie slept or meditated or whatever they need to do. 2. They have started doing something else that isn't resting. Crafting, traveling, fighting, etc. A long rest has to be 8 hours, but it can also be longer...

    D&D 5E (2014) I like magic (It's MAGIC!), and I like to cast spells as a ...

I'm not sure how using Eldritch Blast and Agonizing Blast is different then a Paladin going sword and board with Dueling or a Fighter going greatsword with Great Weapon Fighting. They are all class features designed to work together. "You're going to take +2 to every swing? That's dumb and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Re-opening discussion on multiple spell concentration.

So, for us we make sure that anything change we do that lets you do more, also has a balance that lets you do less. So, how about: You may concentrate on a second spell. If you do so, you make not take the attack action or cast additional spells until you drop concentration on a spell. My...

    D&D 5E (2014) Re-opening discussion on multiple spell concentration.

I'll also say, while I like the thought, I disagree because it shouldn't be restricted to only Wizards. Other powerful characters, such as druids or clerics, should be able to attain it as well.
