    D&D 5E (2014) Re-opening discussion on multiple spell concentration.

If I were to suggest a change to the concentration rules, I would focus on keeping it simple. I think the biggest downside to concentration is you can choose to help your allies or suppress your enemies, but not both. I'd suggest adding a new mechanic, called something like Willpower or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Re-opening discussion on multiple spell concentration.

I think that the concentration rules as they are pretty good. The thing I would change is that some of the spells themselves that require concentration shouldn't. They went a little overboard when they assigned concentration. Most spells already have a pretty short duration. But there are a...

D&D 5E (2014) character creation and new players

I'm not sure it does matter much beyond two key factors: Racial Stats bonuses and typical Race/Class stereotypes. Once you get past those two things, there really is no reason to suggest one race can't be any class. There are of course exceptions. Half-Orc obviously lends itself more to melee...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Level of "Raise Stat to 19" Items

Which part? The +2 to strength or the raising the max strength to 22? The +2 to strength is no different then you would get from an Ioun stone, although that doesn't change your max possible strength. The Max and total strength however, can be changed with belt of giant strength, so I'm not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic pet peeves

So...if I bite a sea urchin, did it venomize me, or did I poison myself?

    D&D 5E (2014) Group Rule Deal-Breakers

Most of the things that would turn me from a group you can't really advertise for. I would have to discover them once we started getting together. Poor attitudes, hygiene, morals, etc I would discover as we play and address it or leave the group. I don't want really restrictive rule sets that...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Level of "Raise Stat to 19" Items

All valid points, I don't disagree with you. At the same time, I think it has the downside of eventually not having to make difficult character choices. The number of attuned items you can have in 5E is a big limit. I would rather see the fighter having to weigh which 4 items benefit him the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin, Oath of the Anti-Arcane

I'm coming into this a little late, but I'll throw in some points. Channel Divinity: I think the way you had it going the first time was better. You only have one use of channel divinity per rest, so it isn't going to happen a ton. I don't think it was overpowered before. Concentration...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Level of "Raise Stat to 19" Items

I don't mind these, but I also don't allow players to buy magic items outside of potions and scrolls, so I can see how they could be destabilizing. That being said, I would prefer that the items increased a stat by a range such as +2 or +4 instead of assigning a flat score. It allows them to in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Easy realistic economy

You lose all credibility for including Electrum. What a horrible currency.

    D&D 5E (2014) Easy realistic economy

I wasn't looking at it from an actual value of gold or silver. I was looking at it as a Gold Piece as an intangible object equal to the value we say it is. Similar to an actual dollar, which only has as much value as the government or market says it does. Its not tied to a gold standard. Tieing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Easy realistic economy

Personally I would prefer: GP =$100 SP = $10 CP = $1. Keeps the 1:10 ratio going, eliminates cents and decimals to keep the math simple and allows for easy transition to currency exchange. Using that formula, you can determine prices of items with real day equivilancies pretty easily.

D&D 5E (2014) Reach weaon and opportunity attack

I agree with your points. I just find it annoying thatvit doesn't have consistency. If a reach weapon can attack something at 5' feet no problem, it should also AoO someone at 5' no problem.

    D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph Scenario

I think instawin scenarios detract from the game, especially if it is a scenario that is repeatable, such as the Polymorph-Sphere scenario. That being said, rewarding creativity is a necessity and should should done when possible. If players do something like this, make it count, but don't make...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D go away from ASIs?

I will add, one huge point towards ASIs: Every pregen character I make uses them. I've never given a feat to a pregen. I do one shots often for new players and hand them a stack of options to choose from to play, all pretty basic and stereotypical characters. The ASIs just make the whole...

    D&D 5E (2014) Telekinesis damage?

I think the suggestion several people have had of comparing the damage to other 5th level spells is the way to go. Just a few examples: Cone of Cold - 8d8 (36) 5th level fireball - 10d6 (35) Destructive Wave - 10d6 (35) All of these do damage to multiple creatures. The only single target 5th...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D go away from ASIs?

I'm torn, because I don't really see the ASI's as being badly designed. However, I think you could certainly make things more interesting and realistic, although more complicated. My biggest complaint with them, is I don't see them being a true reflection on how improving yourself works. I'd...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monk Weapon

I realize all that, I pointed it out in the first reply of this thread. Technically, he can use the long sword just like you say he can use armor. Just that he will lose all the benefits. The difference here is the kensei is designed to allow this vs the other subclasses which aren't.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monk Weapon

I just believe this is a slippery slope, allowing the use of a weapon as a monk weapon simply because of proficiency. Are you going to then allow warhammers and half plate to be used for martial arts since your mountain dwarf is proficient?

    D&D 5E (2014) Monk Weapon

Nope. PHB 78 "At 1st level, your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use unarmed strikes and monk weapons, which are shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don’t have the two-handed or heavy property." However, keep a look out for the Kensei Monk in XGTE. If...
