Should clerics use raise dead scrolls from another faith?

Any magic item created by a cleric is created from and for the glory of their patron deity. As such, deity, alignment, etc is all built in at the time of casting / creating. And, yes, this can make things a bit difficult at times, as using a scroll utilizes the power of that deity - and thus may...

Real illusions - Can you make your save?

The second was easy to see past. The steps going down lacked any appearance of grain or glint, and there over all appearance was more akin to what I would expect in a high-end computer game rather than an actual stone passage. So, too, for that matter, were the walls of the corner next to the...

What is your local game store situation?

There are three in the local area, but two cater almost exclusively to comics and card games. I could find plenty of Magic the Gathering there if I wished, but any rpg book I wanted to buy would have to be ordered - which I could do just as easily myself. The third one is large and has a good...

Do You Feel The Need For Balance (Not In Terms of Power)?

Actually, I tend to think that Psionics, Divine, and Arcane should be considered one of those 'rule of three' things from the Planescape setting.

I Have A Copy of Monster Manual 5.

If that were true I think magic would work quite different in the HP series! Also, I would imagine the dragons would have looked quite a bit different - and been a wee bit more powerful and intelligent. :)

    WOTC Map Galleries

I think they do it that way on purpose, so that you only get a vague notion of what the map looks like and are also unable to use it without buying the book it is in.

    Oots #468

Actually, they are 'red shirts'. I'm glad to see that Belkar still has his pet skull. I was wondering where it was last time.

And Conan should have a ??? accent?

Indo-European includes the languages of the Iran through to much of India. Considering how many peoples (and languages, for that matter) exist in that swath of area, I wouldn't be surprised if half or more of the IE languages turned out to be continental Asian rather than continental European...

Clerics: Essential Class or Sacred Cow?

We already have some arcane healing in the bard and some PrCs for wizards and sorcerers. I see no problem with moving the healing spells over to the arcane list - or, better yet, consolidating the spell list so that nearly all spells can be learned by nearly any caster. (I can see the clerics...

And Conan should have a ??? accent?

That's actually a good point. Its been years since I read the books. Where did Conan grow up (as a slave, as I recall), and what accent would be expected of that land? Take that, add in a slight pinch of Irish or Scottish, and I think we have a winner. Also a good point, which in effect rendors...

    Favored enemy (dragon)!?

Doesn't the Half-dragon template give the dragon subtype? Just pop it onto various creatures - animals, magical beasts, various humanoid foes (bosses, perhaps, or thugs hired by the brains of an outfit, etc), and so forth. Best yet, the resistances / breath weapon changes based on the dragon...

Real life beasts that need more attention

Interesting - both the idea and the bit about the hyena's shadow. I like the idea of making the folklore a part of the animals' abilities, although in most instances this would requiring changing the animals into magical beasts instead. But then I've done something similar in the past. I...

I can't see Hinjo knowingly and willingly working with thee same group of which Belkar is a part, him being a Paladin and Belkar being unrepentantly CE and all . . . .

    Saves as new Abilities?

No, I just dislike the way poisons and diseases are handled and some of the ways saves are handled. Initially I just broke down some of the saves into pairs. Fortitude became Fortitude (based on Con, vs diseases, poisons, etc) and Endurance (based on Str, vs fatigue, endurance checks for...

Fooling players who have memorized the MM

I had a DM once that stated that all dragons were brown, and unless we had ranks in Know (dragon) we could not tell them apart, know ahead of time of their breath weapon, alignment, or even their age category (and considering that the larger dragons start out medium - large, and the smallest...

Real life beasts that need more attention

I've seriously thought about making some of these creatures the normal 'animals' of the world I am constructing. I have both the book and the DVD series, but I have not seen the image you posted. Where exactly did you find it? Do they have such for the other creatures as well? [Edit] Very...

    Saves as new Abilities?

An odd idea occurred to me recently. What if the saves were treated as ability scores - set at first level and increased thereafter only by magic items / spells (temporarily) or by the once every 4th level increase to an ability score (permanent)? Suddenly you lose the situation of high level...

    Latest purchases

Sandstorm - I already had Frostburn and found it interesting and enjoyable. As such, I have been looking forward to buying its equal opposite Sandstorm for a while now. Iron Heroes revised I bought the original and liked it, although I have not yet had a chance to run it or in it. Now with...

    Revised Rogue Class

You can still have the extra move action. Just make it a special. Hmm, what if it required Evasion and Dex 15+? Or, if you want to make it harder to take just upgrade Evasion to Improved Evasion or Defensive Roll. Both suggest rapid precise movements, after all.
