Monster Manual Layout/Organization: What do you prefer...

Does anyone else hope for some great index/indices and monster creation rules? I have not been a fan of monster creation rules for 3.x or 4e, and I have never played the earlier games. Templates are a great help, so a whole bunch of them in an appendix would be excellent.

Pathfinder 1E I'm in over my head... Need some help!

You could always add some more stuff. Like the constant night is allowing the Plane of Shadow to bleed into the Prime Material Plane. As long as this bleed effect is in place, the rituals to restore the sun won't work. First the party needs to find and destroy devices allowing the Plane of...

Monster Manual Layout/Organization: What do you prefer...

Not sure, I gave XP to Stormonu without problems. Maybe I just make too many points you consider great? I like that answer!

How many "random encounters" is too much?

No, I understand. I was making two points and didn't space them appropriately. The dungeon and city were examples of random encounters that are hidden. The wasted time is when a combat feels like a combat simply to have a fight scene. No story elements are gained, the plot doesn't move forward...

Pathfinder 1E I'm in over my head... Need some help!

I think this makes a great set up. You have a constant night, when many feared monsters are not nearly as hindered as the pc races. A ritual to return the sun (whatever that happens to be for the game world) is probably the best way to do it. Perhaps you can break the ritual up and have the PCs...

    Pathfinder 1E Vikings Campaign

It seems like a good way to bump the party up a few levels.

How many "random encounters" is too much?

I feel the same way. In a dungeon environment I expect roving monsters and the like. In a city, I can expect and ambush from the smuggling ring the party is breaking up. But most of the time, it seems like a waste. I really dislike random encounters in 3.5/Pathfinder where the combat can take a...

    Pathfinder 1E Vikings Campaign

If you scroll to the very bottom of the page, the left corner has a drop down box. "Legacy" is one of the standard styles. For the text color, edit the post and make sure the whole post is in the same color. If you copied it from something like Word, it could change the text color may be what...

    Pathfinder 1E Vikings Campaign

Most of your post can't be read using the legacy skin for the forum. You probably want to change that. As for the ideas, I don't even know if you can get to the point where you need adventures. Your plot right now seems to be on the rails, or hinged on the party making the correct decision...

1000 features, traps, and other things to spice up a dragon's lair

    67) The dragon living in the clouds. Once a great cloud castle was built, but over the many years it fell into ruin. The dragon has moved in and adopted the place. It is difficult for mortals to attack, offers a great view, and with ready access to both sea creatures and land animals there is...

1000 features, traps, and other things to spice up a dragon's lair

    64) The dragon's lair is deep in the heart of a jungle. It stalks the deep wilds there, acting more as a boogeyman to the local people than a real threat. The villages that pay tribute (though who or what collects it is never seen) survive and do very well. Those villages that do not pay tribute...

    D&D 5E (2014) Time to Stop Revising

What says WotC wants the edition released for summer of 2014? Why not 2015? That would give more time to get the edition balanced properly and playtested. The previous editions have always had some major issues in the core rules. Wouldn't taking more time to get this right be beneficial to the...

Monster Manual Layout/Organization: What do you prefer...

I would love the book set up this way as long as there were multiple indices and a good table of contents. I'm a big fan of the Gnome Stew books Eureka and Masks with their multiple indices. It would look something like this: Table of Content) Creature Type listed Index 1) Alphabetically Index...

    Pathfinder 1E Keeping it simple

I like some of your ideas, however: What you could end up with an adversarial relationship between yourself and the players. Most of the house rules prior to this are just house rules that seem fine. But the comment about your players trying to make unbalanced characters and wanting everything...

Looking for Underdark hex mapping ideas and stuff

Yeah... PCs shop for gear they need. Do you have the Dungeonscape book? I like lots of the stuff from there for dungeon adventures. The Underdark is really just a megadungeon for the most part. The book also has some great ideas about the type of gear to use and bring in a delving adventure...

Steal This Rule: Fighting Colossal Creatures

The first part reminds me of the way ranges work in Burning Wheel. As for the rest, it does seem like a climactic battle in a video game, which is often what we want to emulate for bass fights. The button mashing fight versus a giant monster (like how the Path of Neo game had the ending changed...

    Advice for a Kobold.

Agile weapon is definitely one way to go, but sneak attacks really want TWF. I don't know if the strength penalty is really worth "wasting" a bonus on. Maybe he can play a session or two before getting an Agile weapon. Then he can know if he really wants that extra dex bonus. If he does, go for...

Looking for Underdark hex mapping ideas and stuff

Good points. There is tons of room for adventure and the unknown in the depths. With the natural caverns being only 10,000 feet deep, would you allow for deeper areas that are reinforced and cooled somehow?

    Advice for a Kobold.

There is a ranger archetype that can make traps instead of getting spells. The class can make mechanical traps with supplies or supernatural traps with the substitute magical ability. It also gets trapfinding as a class feature. Possibly worth looking into. Back on the original topic: I went...
