    Low Fantasy RPG?

Uh... I don't know much more about Torchbearer. I haven't played it and don't own the book. Mouse Guard and Burning Wheel I have played an own, but not Torchbearer.

    Low Fantasy RPG?

One point of caution, the game is not really meant for large groups. I'm currently in a group of 7, and I'm very sad I can't use Burning Wheel with them. Smaller groups work better, but a group of 4 plays and GM should have no problems. 5 players can work with a really good GM.

    Low Fantasy RPG?

Torchbearer is a game by Burning Wheel HQ. It is a "love letter" to the old school dungeon crawls. But it would be able to help create a low fantasy world. Honestly, I think Burning Wheel is your best option. Light core, with heavy subsystems. It has Beliefs, Instincts, and Traits that roughly...

    Low Fantasy RPG?

Savage Worlds already got the mention. Rules heavy games that are low fantasy: Black Company Campaign Setting by Green Ronin Iron Heroes (by Mike Mearls, published by Monte Cook) is a no-magic game, very easy to make it low fantasy Mouse Guard for mice based low fantasy Realm Guard- mouse...

    Recording Gaming Sessions

How much out of character dialogue happens? If you ever watch some people stream an RPG session on twitch.... it gets boring fast. At least for me. For record keeping it would be awesome, but long and boring. I recommend you get a small handheld camera and try to prop it up somewhere it can...

Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

Does this actually work for you group? That must be awesome. For my group this idea fills me with both glee and dread. I can picture time and arguments being saved and more gaming happening. But I also picture a few people in my group who would make arbitrary decisions and if the problem...

Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

This is very true, for the GM. I don't think players need them as much. But then again, Janx brings up the good part. When it can be used and left alone, I have no problems with technology at the table. But I have too often seen it detract from the game. I love being able to use Obsidian...

Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

From what I have seen there a few main types of people who use tech at the tables: GMs- rarely have a problem since they running the game and paying attention Player A- who has it for reference but mostly keeps it sleep, off the table, or in some other "off" mode Player B- who thinks he or she...

What kind of Map Symbols evoke Gothic Horror?

I want to game with you.... I'm lucky if my GM remembers to add some fun descriptions to the rooms, or in FATE, viewable aspects like the room is filled with shadows, cramped, and echoes loudly.

    1 GM 2 Players

Mouse Guard and Burning Wheel can lead to really amazing games with only 2 players and a GM. Check out some of the actual play posts on the Burning Wheel forums to help.

What kind of Map Symbols evoke Gothic Horror?

The vampire killing kit and organ are awesome. They would be fantastic to help set the mood on a battle mat or a map.

    Looking for Game System Recommendations

I recommend Savage Worlds. There are a lot of options in combat, without needing to get feats or spend extra skills to unlock options. In addition the rules let simple -2/+2 advantages or disadvantages have meaning. Plus you can take multiple actions! I would have said to go with FATE Core but...

DARK campaign setting - need help with malaysian-inspired mythos

You'd have clerics in this setting? Why? It seems the gods don't care a lot, and they aren't doing anything to help their people. I would run the setting without clerics. However you could adapt the Datuk Keramat worship. Link There are nine Datuks: Datuk Panglima Ali (Ali) Datuk Panglima...

    System for Hunter X Hunter?

Savage Worlds can hit your requirements. Feng Shui could be great for this too. FATE Core has been recommended already. I think Savage Worlds or FATE are the best systems to adapt for Hunter x Hunter game, based on what you've said-I haven't seen the show. Adapting the Cortex+ system from the...

One Clever Thing (in Every Encounter)

How about a hall of mirrors for a combat? Or portals! Imagine a large room with six pillars supporting a vaulted ceiling and a mezzanine. There are portals scattered all over the room and on the mezzanine. Attacks and line of sight continue through the portals. Ranged characters need to move a...

Rules Lite Yet Restrictive System for Tabletop Grotesque Tactics?

I think Basic Roleplaying by Chaosium may be something to look at. FATE Core may be good too, but it's not percentage based.

What kind of Map Symbols evoke Gothic Horror?

This above pretty much anything I can think of! Creepy and unnerving statues are definitely shorthand for "Gothic Horror" as a genre. Oh, Games Workshop has some stuff that may be helpful. The terrain of Warhammer Fantasy may be particularly inpirational.

One Clever Thing (in Every Encounter)

I have found "aura" style zones to be good in D&D games. Something like an altar to a death god that causes wounds inflected by people within it's dark glow to bleed excessively. Or the ability to knock over a giant cauldron of boiling (thing) to damage the enemy while turning a small area into...

One Clever Thing (in Every Encounter)

Running combats in a hedge maze, or just large maze-like hedge area can be good. Cover, purpose for movement, choke points for melee, pushing through/burning through sections of the "walls" and varying height can add a lot.

One Clever Thing (in Every Encounter)

I once had the PCs fight two bulettes in a large open dungeon room...with a giant chess pieces playing a game (initiative 20 and 10). The pieces could smash into PCs and the bulettes and the frequent movement made the ranged characters keep moving to maintain line of sight. The players really...
