The only fantasy world map you'll ever need

Did anyone else read A-ra-bian Niiiiights like the Disney opening song to Aladdin? Also, this map is pretty funny. But also a bit sad. It has almost everything I have ever seen in a campaign setting. I think this points to the issue of "traditional fantasy" when Fantasy as a genre is massive...

    Dungeons Tiles?

I really like the Noteboard For $12 you get a good sized map, if you get another even better. You can fold it to slowly reveal the dungeon as you go. It is also handy for writing papers or planning... well anything. If that doesn't appeal, I think Gaming Paper is a good option.

what isn't an rpg that should be?

I don't know that much about Grimm, but there is a Supernatural RPG. It does a good job from what I've seen of modeling the "walking the earth and fighting monsters" vibe.

Weapons that scale to the wielder?

I've run games where magic gear re-sized to someone who attuned to it. This took a couple hours. Then it re-sized to allow a hafling to use a giant's sword or anything in between. I don't give out too much treasure so letting the PCs re-size gear wasn't a big deal. Plus the world has stuff like...

what isn't an rpg that should be?

True, but often certain systems don't properly reflect the genre. A few optional rules to use to better capture the genre would be beneficial with the stats.

what isn't an rpg that should be?

I'd like to see a few things as an rpg or a setting with enough house rules to make it work. Dune by Frank Herbert Codex Alera books by Jim Butcher The Elven Ways by Jenna Rhodes (not a very good series, but amazing setting and world) Magic: the Gathering Spyro the Dragon (admit it, it would be...

    Oneshot Game Plot Resources/Advice?

So you've seen the cover of Spirit of the Century? On topic, you probably want to check out a book called Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters by engine publishing. It's by the guys who run Gnome Stew. Seriously awesome book. Some scenarios: Mysterious AssassinWhile attending...

    BAR FIGHT!!!

The PCs are going to be unarmed and unarmored? Encourage them to use chairs and tables as weapons. I just hope the whole campaign uses such swashbuckling fights. Let them know you want this to be like Indiana Jones, the Princess Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Transporter. Use as much of...

    BAR FIGHT!!!

For anyone viewing your post in the black skin for EN World, your text cannot be read. You should change the text color or copy and paste it into Notepad and then copy and paste it back into the forum to remove the formatting. I will post thoughts in a bit after I read your post highlighted.

    Maps & Models.

Probably but on the right surfaces some rubbing alcohol can make flames for very short amounts of time. Little LED tea candles are probably better, you can poke holes in the cardboard and sit them under it so you get a little flickering flame effect.

What Kind of Quest do you do for a Water God?

Have them travel to a place like Venice. They need to clear the stagnant water and purify the area. If they can convince enough people to enshrine the water god as the patron god of the city, the god will keep the waters from further sinking the city. They need to clear out levees, increase...

    Revealing character background information

Can your players separate PC and player knowledge? If they can, just tell them. Then everyone can work to make the reveal better. If not, dreams? Healing from wounds faster than normal? Being pierced but having no failing organs (yay shapeshifting!) Funny colored pee? Uh.... When in a zone of...

Are we, as a wider community, nasty?

I don't think nasty is the right word. I've seen people get defensive, and lash out. I've seen lots of passionate posts taken the wrong way. I've seen loads of people helped out by other posters with links and tips. So.. sometimes? I think like any large enough group we have a bell-curve of...

    101 Simple Epic Encounters

    7) A great storm gathers over the region. Thunder, lightning, and hail continue for days. Refugees are flocking to the villages and cities out of floodplains and in higher grounds. They bring rumors of a legion of storm giants calling for war. Meanwhile, the remaining crops are being ruined from...

    Sci Fi RPG: System help?

I'm a big fan of Savage Worlds, highly recommended. FATE is pretty awesome too. I would suggest either of those. Dannyalcatraz is it weird that I knew you were going to suggest HERO before I read your post?

    101 Simple Epic Encounters

    5) A giant clockwork behemoth attacks the city. The monstrosity walks on six legs and has four arms; two end in giant crushing claws, the other arms end with a wide array of tools to grab people. It easily crumbles walls and brushes aside the city's defenses. As it moves into the city, it begins...

    How should D&D handle healing?

A wound and vitality system right? I'm pretty sure the 3.5 SRD had a rule for it somewhere. Iron Heroes uses something similar. It worked well in the games I've used it.

    How should D&D handle healing?

I prefer having a system where some damage to the character can be shrugged off. If the is a wound system with HP or something like FATE with stress and consequences. I want serious injuries to have an effect on the characters and be harder to heal. If HP is just cuts, scrapes, bruises, and...

What do you mean that you about preferring a smaller cut? Do you like the digest sized books like Savage Worlds or similar sized hardbacks like FATE Core and Burning Wheel?
