Hi! To absorb a spell, you must succeed on a CASTER LEVEL CHECK (not Saving Throw). If you weren't successfull, you are affected by the spell as usual; meaning you get your save (if applicable), you check your Spell Resistance, and you apply any modifiers to the save (Elf, Dwarf, etc.) Enjoy!

CLOTH: Cloth has 2 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 0. Player’s Handbook, p. 166. Canvas may have 3 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 9. Enjoy! See appendix for more information on other objects and their hardness.
