We've shockingly never used this spell before.

D&D 5E (2014) Detect Thoughts as an interrogation tool

PCs have the baddie tied up and questioning him while the bard has Detect Thoughts going. What is the difference between surface thoughts and deeper probe that should allow a save to resist? They're asking him detailed stuff, such as "Who do you work for?" The baddie doesn't want to answer...

I'm really liking what I'm seeing here. Definitely something I'd not have expected, but it sounds interesting.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th ed D&D general impressions from a new player and DM.

Haha. Yes that's true. As much as I love terrifying them with a brutal encounter, they do like to mop the floor with bad guys more often.

    D&D 5E (2014) NPC Allies?

I have Ezmerelda who has just joined the party in Curse of Strahd. She's effectively a 5th member, a CR 8 and helps in combat. I have her there for story reasons but don't want her as a permanent fixture. In fact, the only reason she IS there is because the adventure has it scripted. She is...

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

I like tactician too. It strips away military connotations and leaves exactly what the class does. It's not a sexy name, but it would work.

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

I did a warlord synonym search out of curiosity and these popped up MOST RELEVANT assailant boxer champion combatant mercenary militant opponent soldier tanker warrior GI aggressor antagonist battler belligerent brawler bruiser bully competitor contender contestant disputant duelist gladiator...

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

I associate Marshall with law enforcement and deputies, a ranking officer in a town, especially in an old Western setting. I suppose you could have a 1st level marshall, but it sounds like a job title to me and not great as a class.

So, to be clear, you think it is reasonable to be thrown into deep, calm water, with your hands bound behind your back, and there is no swim check needed. You then kick/float your way to shore.

    D&D 5E (2014) NPC Allies?

I don't really understand the poll question. Anyway, I think the DM decides if an NPC is recurring or temporary or permanent or whatever. I use them sparingly, unless the players are down one, then I will have a permanent NPC. Actually, when I ran Princes, we only had 3 players and I gave the...

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

Yeah, most of them do have those connotations. Warden doesn't, but it didn't get any love in the votes.

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

actually, it goes both ways. Well, according to Google anyway. What is the difference between Marshal and Marshall? (Marshall is, by the way, a long-established spelling variant of marshal. The two l's usually get used for proper nouns, like names and places—and stores—but both common noun...

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

That's my only issue really with the warlord class name, giving it to someone at 1st level who has never see a war or a lord. He's not a master or expert at anything yet. Maybe "Warlord" would be better suited as his 3rd level subclass specialty?

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

Hmm. Warden is interesting. I voted Warlord, but warden as "a protector of places or things" would work, and it doesn't feel like the name assumes lots of experience already. Like General.

    D&D 5E (2014) Climbing a tower rules 5e

Why not each hour of CLIMBING a PC has to make a CON 10 check or gain a level of Exhaustion? The DMG says it as far as swimming, and that's the same movement penalty as climbing, so should the penalty of DC Con 10 per hour apply too?
