WotBS WotBS #4 - Mad Kings Banquet

Gah, no need for a screenshot; I see what happened. I'll get a fix out as soon as I can. (On the plus side, it's an easy fix.) I have a feeling some minor errata items might make their way in at the same time. :) In the meantime, the passage, including the partial paragraph, reads: The...

    Wondering...

If there's a Madden Curse involved here, then my wife got hit with it too, a few months back. I suppose "during the production of #4" was as good a time as any for the back surgery.

If you had 1 year to plan a weekend of gaming, what would you do?

Write a conclusion to my epic trilogy of one-shots I sometimes refer to as "Wuxia Super-Heroes." Take advantage of the multiple-day gaming format to really do it justice.

    The Ooze monster.

The word's existence in the SRD does not make it a trademark. Using it in a way that doesn't copy "expressions" from the SRD is not a violation of copyright.

    Ye old Birthright

At a guess, I'd say Birthright suffered from a combination of: Late-TSR setting multiplicity Trying to do too many things at once High concept Quirks I'll tell you what I wanted from Birthright. I wanted a system that would let my existing high-level PCs settle down and run baronies...

Subscribers now get the entire WAR OF THE BURNING SKY campaign saga - in 4E AND 3.5!

There should be no computer-based, technical restrictions on copying the illustrations from the PDF. Tested with Adobe Reader 9.2.0, and it works fine for me.

    The Ooze monster.

If this is the same non-OGL product from the earlier thread, as long as your creature statistics (readouts, whatever) don't *look* like OGL stat block, it's probably okay. IA(still)NAL, but personally, I would say that as you get farther and farther away from the OGL *mechanics*, that makes it...

    Help with regional Map

Aside from the usual typo corrections and a few minor text edits (none of which are substantive, but all of which hopefully read a touch better), there's a new stat block (Arick, who might engage one of the heroes in a sparring match), the new map, and a new sidebar that explains how to run...

    Cost of artwork?

I'm not an artist myself, but IME I find that a piece of art designed to fit in a quarter page has less detail, complexity, and so forth (and is cheaper to commission for that reason). Conversely, designing a piece of art to fill a page typically requires more work from the artist (and full-page...

    Help with regional Map

Do you have the Revision 1 PDF? (If you do, it says so at the foot of the title page.) I think you can re-download if you don't. It's on page 7.

Mainly, there's a heaping load more color interior art in the 4E version (tactical maps, primarily, but also some illustrations).

    Necromantic cheese anyone? (Possible Spoilers!!)

So... The cheese has a soul The cheese has a soul Hi-ho, the derry-o The cheese has a soul ... In my defense, it's been a rough week, and the rest isn't looking up.

InDesign CS3, Acrobat 8, and bookmarks

These are the InDesign CS3 settings that work for me (attached). Some key points: make sure you are not creating a Tagged PDF, not using a PDF/X standard, and not making it compatible with Acrobat 4 (5 or higher should work). Just for completness's sake, and not because I think you do this...

InDesign CS3, Acrobat 8, and bookmarks

Check your Acrobat settings. There's an option there in PDF Optimizer that strips bookmarks and such. (It seems as though Reduce File Size uses the PDF Optimizer's current settings, but I could be wrong.) In version 9, it's at Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects (checkbox item) > Discard...

Usage of "d20" in other products.

You can claim any name you like as a trademark, but unless you've marked something that's being traded (read: sold) with it, the declaration is most likely to be entirely inconsequential (you wouldn't be able to defend the mark). You generally see character names trademarked when...

Usage of "d20" in other products.

Then it's probably not a big deal. :) While I might personally like to see a more "folkloric" approach*, "kobolds" (however they look and whatever they're about**) do, as I said, fill the "puny humanoid" niche in several other RPGs and CRPGs without any apparent issue. * Reading back, I notice...

Usage of "d20" in other products.

"Game Master" and "GM" are, in all likelihood, safe to use in your rules text. Monster names pulled from folklore and myth are, in all likelihood, safe. On the topic of monsters, though, my advice (FWIW here on the Internet) is to be careful that your kobold, for example, is drawn more from...

Usage of "d20" in other products.

WOTC does not own the notion of resolving game mechanical situations by rolling a 20-sided die. Note that this is not a trademark issue. I can't imagine how you could infringe upon any WOTC trademarks by referring to a 20-sided die within your rules text as a "D20."
