    Vanity Search

My print on the web is pretty small. But I don't worry about it. I figure the most employers can learn is I play D&D. If they don't want gamers in their organization, I don't want to be a part of it.

Pathfinder 1E Business models from TSR, WotC and Paizo

Personally I didn't like the 3E model of putting out rule book after rule book. All the splat books had the power creep issue others have mentioned, but it also intimidated people who started late (imagine coming into 3E after all those books were released...a little overwhelming). I still play...

    Professional GM: Possible Return

I am glad to hear you are moving this forward. Sounds like you are making the right connections. Definitely keep at the business counseling sessions. They really helped me. They will directly challenge many of your assumptions, but the key is to discover what you don't know through their...

    Professional GM: Possible Return

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but something people are always looking for are playtesters. Most designers are limited by where they live, and the schedules of the gamers in their area. They also want feed back from folks outside their regular gaming group. Have you considered...

    Professional GM: Possible Return

To the OP: First, I am sorry for your personal loss. Second, this may or may not be a viable idea. I tend to think it will be a difficult sell, but someone figured out how to sell bottled water, so anything is possible. My advice, go to your local Chamber of Commerce. Most cities have some...

New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

I see lots of good advice on both sides here, but again don't lock yourself into one system is you can avoid it. When I first started we played AD&D sometimes, Call of Cthulu other nights, Palladium, TORG or GURPS on other occassions. This really made my gaming experience more enjoyable. Like...

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

I haven't really had this experience with it. Sure it is less fleshed out than something like GURPS, but it is meant to be a streamlined system. GURPS is definitely a more complete system. Personally I find GURPS a little on the cumbersome side and a little old fashioned for my taste. Still a...

From 4E to GURPS: D&D and Simulationism

I highly recommend Savage Worlds. It is a universal system, like GURPS, but its much smoother. It definitely leans toward a certain style of play (high energy, cinematic); but its a great system and you can use it for virtually any genre.

Tell me about "Any RPG" from before 1990!

I recall playing some of the pre-1990s games. But it really was a while ago, and I don't remember that much. One thing that stands out in my mind is that the philosophy governing rules design seemed to be very different--maybe a little more tied to Role Playing's wargame roots.

    Where To Start

A great source is the marketplace section of EN World. I have seen requests for 4E Submissions. You can also find companies you know make 4E material and check out there websites. Most have a submissions page. Its a good idea to be familiar with the style of the company, before you submit...

New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

To the OP, I think your initial assessment of the strengths and short comings in your frist post is basically right. Every fan of 3E is going to tell you your wrong about its shortcomings, and every fan of 4E is going to say your wrong about its shortcomings. But I think you essentially got the...

    Boston Game Stores?

Oops. Sorry there. Asmor is right, there is tons to see in Salem: The House of the Seven Gables, The Peabody Essex Museum, The Corwin House, and Pickering Wharf. Lots of fun stuff to do as well. Good bar scene given the size of the city (if you are into that). Actually both Salem and Beverly...

How much do characters know about game mechanics?

I think the mechanics are tools meant to simulate the rules of universe the PCs inhabit. It is the rules of the unvierse the mechanics describe that matters, not the mechanics themselves, which are often more about playability than the setting. For example, powers in 4E. The powers and how often...

    Cooking: Simple ramen noodle recipes

I would try plain ramen noodles in the microwave with water to get the noodles right first. Then experiment with different flavor combinations. Some possible flavor sources: Soy Sauce, Fish Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Pepper, Siracha Sauce, Tumeric Powder, citrus, Chili Powder, Syuu Sauce (not sure how...

    Boston Game Stores?

Looks like people have already mentioned the big Boston Stores. If you are in the North Shore at all, you might want to check out Harrison's and Red Lion Smoke shop. Harrison's has some nice stuff and a game room downstairs. Red Lion is just a real quirky smoke shop/magazine shop/comic...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

That doesn't mean every 'crazy' idea should be taken seriously. Especially when the evidence just doesn't support it. The thing with Galileo was, the evidence supported his position. He was going up against tradition. The alien thing is mroe like tradition going up against the evidence. I don't...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

I don't believe in Ancient Astronauts drawing maps for Turks, and I believe the History Channel has a serious credibility issue. The problem is, sometimes they do serious documentaries with interviews of reputable scholars, but they mix it up with stuff like Alien Astronauts. If it were clear...

    Lulu or Lightning Source

I will start publishing later this year and lots of people suggested I use Lulu or Lightning Source. Anyone have an opinion on which is better or the advantages and disadvantages of either one.? Also, what are the drawbacks of the lulu/lightning Source model?
