    Why the World Exists

You can count me in the group that wants this possibility super deadly foes in unexpected places (though to be fair, not while I am shopping in the city). As a player I do want to feel like everything around me is trying to accomodate my character level. I don't think it fair to force a party to...

Pathfinder on the bookstore shelves? Forked Thread: The 3.5 renaissance!

I see a bunch of "3.5" products hitting the shelves at my game stores. I also see plenty of 4E material. There seems to be markets for both. And thats good. We are starting to see something like we had in the 80s, when there were a bunch of smaller games to choose from; and everythign wasn't...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

I can't agree with this. It sounds nice, and lets people who think they are smart absolve themselves of personal responsibility to those they consider suckers...but if you are going to present something as a report of the facts, you should be truthful. Especially when the venue calls itself the...

[Forked Thread: The 3.5 renaissance!] Three Years in the future - What will WotC do?

Option 2 seems the best. Other option: 1) Re-release 2E or 3E as Dungeons and Dragons "Classic" Hoping to get the grognards back.

"Exceptional Fluff" - the bane of RPGs (ranty)

Personally I read novels to illuminate the game world, not the rules system. If you restrict a writer to the confines of the spell system and the character class system, I think you would get some pretty uninspired results. Making a literary character isn't the same as making a player character...

3.5 high level woes and Paizo's hand in it.

You guys did a great job in the beta. My only complaint is the Skill Section could be more explicit (there was some confusion in our group over how many skill points characters are supposed to have). Can't wait to see what kinks you work out in the final version. My group is playing a Pathfinder...

    Why the World Exists

A lot of this boils down to the individuals in the group. The thing to focus on is fun. Some groups have more fun with gamist stuff, some have more fun with simulationist stuff. Most probably fall somewhere in between. I know anytime I game with a GM that is too far on the simulationsist side or...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

Maybe my expectations were unrealistic. I don't mind them having a program on aliens if they want. I just wish they would present the mainstream arguments against their evidence, and make it clear how far fetched their so-called experts' line of reasoning is. Essentially they gave the Alien...

    The 3.5 renaissance!

I don't think this is the case at all. AD&D came out in 1977, and 2nd edition was released in 89. Both systems were very similar; unlike the jump from 2e to 3e or 3e to 4e. It was easy to switch from a 1e campaign to a 2e campaign. This represents a 22 year period, with little growth in the core...

    The 3.5 renaissance!

There is still a market for 3E for sure. People are still playing it; and many have gone back after trying out 4E. I don't know how succesful it will be in the furture; but things look less bleak for 3E than they did when 4E was announced. 4E is out, and has a solid base of fans; but it doesn't...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

To be fair, this is the first time in a while I sat down to watch the history network. But they used to have respectable documentaries. This is just conspiracy theory non-sense, which has no real place in anything that presents itself as History. Unless you dealing with the History of Conspiracy...

Ancient aliens on the history channel. Arrrrghhh!

No. My primary concern is that the "History" Channel is airing a show about Ancient Aliens and presenting the theories in a vacuum. The map was an illustration of how badly their evidence was presented.

    4e Modern

Star Wars has more in common with medieval fantasy than a modern setting (which requires a degree of specificity absent from both). Both are more heroic than down to earth.

    Mature content

Because sex is more private than violence. And it is a subject many find embarrassing. Something about getting pumped up with my friends over sex at the table, is much more uncomfortable than getting pumped up over violence. Simply put, I don't enjoy watching my friends get aroused.

[Game]What the hell is a "Sicilian Chainsaw?"

An oscilating Rob-Otter is a person who is a stiff business man during the week, but kicks back at hippie retreats on the weekends. Named after the famous bohemian photography Robert Otter. I would like to know what Carribean Monk Walker is.
