Do you multiclass for raw mechanical power or for character reasons?

I tend to multiclass for story.. but specific decisions about which class/subclass that fit the theme and story will be for mechanical gain.

Goodman Games Latest News on Into The Borderlands

It's funny - I read the dragonsfoot review (at least I think it was dragonsfoot), and the inclusion of both version of both modules was something that was very much welcomed. People have mentioned archiving, and using for 5th, but it many ways this is also an OSR product with a much sturdier...

Suggestions for the name of a small group of gods

Oh, some nice stuff here. I really like Concordance and the Accord. I'd thought of the Circle, but I think that one may be a bit overused. Another fun campaign tidbit, this is also a hollow world. I've always loved that idea. And starting into steampunk (not much) mechanical men (Gearforged...

Suggestions for the name of a small group of gods

I am putting my campaign world together, and find myself not coming up with something I like for a collective name for the gods. A little odd cosmology. Originally 13 gods. Classic petty Greek gods kind of thing (although all gods are good aligned). Then 1 god went evil, joined forces with...

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

Our table rules: No smokers. We have two very asthmatic people in the core group (one of whom is the host), and that can be triggered being a room with a smoker, even they hadn't lit up in the last 4 hours. No alcohol at the table or beforehand. Have had some very unpleasent sessions with...

D&D 5E (2014) Advice needed (new to 5E, but not to gaming)

I'm aware of those resources - I'm looking for physical books, rather then dead electron versions, though I do appreciate the suggestions. Mental quirk, I can dump 50 bucks easy on small PDFs, but I really think about spending 20 bucks on a physical book, and I got a little carried away when...

Whatever - Player Splats, adventures, Monster collections.

D&D 5E (2014) Advice needed (new to 5E, but not to gaming)

GAH. I knew about them - they are one of my favorite Pathfinder compatible products. I love Midgard. Thanks for reminder.

D&D 5E (2014) Advice needed (new to 5E, but not to gaming)

Alright, I've made the decision to jump into D&D 5th. I'd been hovering for a few years, but my gaming money has been going to Pathfinder - but it has been hard to actually play (the wife and I play solo); so while I like the stuff I see for PF2, I don't think I will be playing it, given...

Bulmahn on Pathfinder 2 Design Goals; Plus Proficiency Clarifications & Archeologists!

One example used in a thread is a high level but untrained someone making fantastic cookies from a recipie, but a lower level but with mastery in cooking could create new dishes and recipeis that the higher level person cannot do. In PF1 the roll/modifier told you both how well you did...

    Pathfinder 2's Proficiency System Explored

Yeah, I can see some 4E showing. The biggest thing about that system that I do not think we will see in PF2 is the "balacing around the encounter" that was the focus of 4E - resonance points already show a day/adventure focus and more resource management than 4E. But that is not a bad thing.

    Pathfinder 2's Proficiency System Explored

Agreed. Splitting it so that your roll gives you degree of success, but profienciency gives you what you can attempt really opens up a lot of design space to do some really cool things. They fact it seems to be for just about anything you roll a d20 for is cool. I really like what I am seeing...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

The way I looked at it - Magic items are passive, so you have to invest a tiny little bit of personal energy (magical potential, soul, aura - whatever) to make them work for you. You spend a resonance point to attune to the ring when you get up, and if you have free points, you can do that to...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

Even though wands and potions are what people are focusing on, resonance also means the removal of body slot magic item tracking. you want 5 rings, wear them and spend 5 resonance in the morning. It also means you can carry specialzed magic gear and use it when you need it. Have a ring of frost...

How Pathfinder 2's Resonance Reduces Wand-Spamming; & Comparisons to 5E Discussed

Interestingly enough - most of the comments I've seen on the paizo boards, in multiple threads, was "Yay Cha means something now!" even if they don't like the idea of Resonance in general.

    Pathfinder 2E Leveling Up

    OK that makes sense.

    Pathfinder 2E Leveling Up

The big thing with powers in 4E is that they were very similar from class to class - and almost all combat focused. If class feats in PF2 are just class abilities renamed, and with the freedom to choose the ones you want, even if the structure is "class feat every other level" - assuming each...

    Pathfinder 2E Leveling Up

To me, this is really reminiscent of Rogue Genius Games "Talented X" classes. Bacially they tore a class down and you picked "talents" sort of standard abilities and "Edges" sort of class definin ones. You could customize any specific class as you liked, picking class abilities of main class and...

What are your last three RPG purchases?

Starfinder. Spheres of Might (Pathfinder) Genesys Core Rulebook. The last one is slowing down future game purchases because it seems like it will cover all my secondary gaming needs (our groups primary game is HERO/Champions). Yes I like universal/generic rules.

Creating a Character VS Discovering a Character

I'm of the build character not roll character approach. My favorite chargen systems have been HERO and GURPS. no dice rolled at all, and complete control. I tend to come to a game a GM is pitching the group a basic idea a month or more to play, and fine tune him during that time. Once play...
