Wizards of the Coast Is Hiring a D&D Worldbuilder

So here’s my concern. I’m not sure WotC is ready to invest the time, effort and product line required to build a world from scratch. A single campaign book or even an adventure is not enough to give something the critical mass to break through and compete with settings with dozens of products...

    D&D 5E (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

Look it’s really clear that WotC are clearly saving the Psion class for next years Dark Sun campaign release. It would be mad to release it before then when that will be the centerpiece for the new setting. That and dragon apotheosis spells.

What VTT(s) do you most dislike and why? (Defenders welcome to defend)

I use Forge for foundry too. My biggest beef with Foundry is that it is quite technical. Feel like I have to do an IT degree to get it to work how it should.

D&D 5E (2024) Bladesinger, is it Green, Yellow, or Red?

I also think bladesinger is very useful in a smaller group where you can’t afford to have a soft goey center because everyone is on the outside.

D&D General Playing to "Win" - The DM's Dilemma

Yeah, but for me it probably applies to any large damage dealers. A Paladin that does 86 damage in a round is probably going to get targeted exclusively by that point on. You make a threat assessment for your NpCs.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

Yeah. It could be that they plan to tackle IP that requires more care/dare than the low hanging fruit up to now. Or it could be that it means they’re going to leave behind existing IP and create new things. I guess we’ll wait and see.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

I wonder if ‘more daring’ means to release harder campaign settings? Dark Sun per chance? Birthright?

D&D General Playing to "Win" - The DM's Dilemma

I used to avoid targeting a single player, but now I am more comfortable doing it. I usually do it when logical as a response to a player doing something overwhelming themselves.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

The art of marketing is actually working out what people want and then putting it in front of them in a way they appreciate.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I just think NPCs arent necessarily a sum of all their parts. It’s acceptable for an orc (thug) to have pack tactics for instance and not an orcs relentless endurance. NPCs don’t follow the same rules as PCs.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Why is it a roadblock? It is a couple of creatures that have full write ups in the PHB. Did we honestly need a stat block just to add dark vision to an NPC? Any one who is DMing for the first time read the PHB first.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

You could say the same about almost all reviews. They almost never take place after someone has ran the campaign. While youtube reviews have a financial incentive to be extreme/original/negative. The days of Endzeitgeist reviews have gone I’m afraid.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Isn’t that because One D&D changed names several times. might be worth considering if a drop off on searches for One D&D was matched by an increase in D&D 2024.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I think if you read a selection of the reviews you’ll see lots of nuance there and plenty of interesting feedback. I think on a 5 point scale I would score pretty much every book I’ve bought for 5e a 5 out of 10, with the exception of Princes of Apocalypse, Storm Kings Thunder and Descent into...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Very very interesting! By the way thanks for everything you’ve done for the hobby, going right back to your original Dungeoncraft articles - made me want to DM D&D as a fresh faced teenager, and certainly write my first homebrew. I still refer back to the rules now. I’m guessing you get that...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

It’s worthless because you don’t agree with it. It’s like the rotten tomatoes reviews. I look at the critics and I look at the audience and I take both into account. I’ve seen critically acclaimed films that fell flat and I’ve seen critically panned films be a lot of fun. Thing is almost all...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

The thing is. Rime has the same review scores as Curse of Strahd by people who have actually bought the book. Pages and pages of glowing reviews. And not one bad one - out of 7000+. Not one. It’s really difficult to see in that circumstance it be seen as a poor product. Unless you subscribe to...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I think there has been a bad energy towards D&D for the last two years which has gone quite some way to sucking the joy out of the things I like. When the community is full of folks dogpiling discussion of any new product with WotC hate it’s harder to get excited.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

This is going to sound crazy and not to everybody’s taste but I actually find that some of the campaigns that don’t come across so well in D&D would work brilliantly in other systems. Some of which aren’t blessed with lots of adventures. Rime of the Frost Maiden in a grittier system like WFRP...
