    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

You also get substantially more effective control with weapon masteries and while you lose mobility compared to a single class Monk, you are still more mobile than every other class. I never found the 2014 Monk squishy. It was weak in tier 2 (not so in other tiers), but bonus action dodge...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Why? You can sheath your weapon as part of an attack giving you a free hand to grapple. The only thing this really prevents is making a weapon attack with a reaction. On future rounds where you start out grappling, you let go of the prone guy, pull out a weapon do your thing, sheath your...

D&D 5E (2024) Wargamer Takes Shot At WotC for Not Respecting Forgotten Realms Canon.

Yeah but they are not in the Monster Manual, they are not in any novels that I know of, they are not in any of the Forgotten-Realms specific stuff, they are not in any published adventures. I would wager that fewer than 10% of players even know what they are.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I think the weapon mastery and abilities you get from a multiclass make it hold up pretty effectively at most levels, including high level. For example I think a Fighter 1/Monk 15 coming in with Defense, 3 weapon masteries, Heavy Armor Master, Shield Master and almost all the Monk features...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Yes you can as long as it is flurry of blows. What you can't do is the "Bonus unarmed attack" associated with martial arts. Thefeature is actually Martial Arts and you can not use it if you are in armor. They don't lose "the ability to make an unarmed strike as a Bonus action" They lose...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I think it stays pretty feasible, but you want some specific choices. It won't be high damage, but it is high mobility and with Fighter you can make it more survivable and "tough" than probably any other non-caster multiclass combination. Far more survivable if you allow the 2014 subclasses...

D&D 5E (2024) Wargamer Takes Shot At WotC for Not Respecting Forgotten Realms Canon.

See I don't find it evocative at all and tying it to Amethyst Dragons, something very few players even know of, makes it even less evocative. You know what would be evocative: Red Dragon Knights. They could tie this to the Githyanki in BG3 (you know knights that actually do ride Dragons) and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Exactly, you can't do the first one, you can do the second. Homebrew to suit your table is fine. IF we are talking about the rules though, they are clear though. You don't get martial arts in armor. So no free bonus action attack, no martial arts die, no using dex on your weapons and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

At Will: Bonus action Dash Bonus action disengage All save proficiencies Deflect Attacks/Energy Superior Defense Evasion Using Ki: Flurry of Blows Stunning Strike Patient Defense - Dodge Step of the Wind - Dash Most of Heightened Focus Disciplined Survivor All this plus any relevant subclass...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

You can use Flurry of Blows. There are three ways to increase your damage: 1. Tavern Brawler origin feat 2. Unarmed combat fighting style (from your multiclass that gave you armor) 3. Race with unarmed strike ability You also can use Stunning Strike with Flurry of Blows. As far as dexterity...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

It doesn't get rid of mobility because you can still bonus action dash or even dash and disengage. It reduces your speed, but you are still the most mobile class in the game even without the speed boost.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

Yeah one time per day. You can get feats to do it, but those are feats not being used for other things

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Yes so it starts at chain and a shield (18) and goes to plate and shield (20)

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

A Monk can do it with a bonus action. Also if you really want to lean into this you can give up unarmed strikes all thogether, take defense fighting style, and use your ki for dodge most of the time.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

I don't think that is a lot. The only thing that really hurts is the martial arts die and only at high level. Losing martial arts is a thing at low level, but you should have bonus actions from your other class and you quickly get ki points so you are pretty covered up and won't be using...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

So I was thinking up a build for this that would be pretty cool: Your typical stereotype Dwarf - drinks way to much, constantly fighting, tough as nails Start Fighter 1 using a morning star, chainmail and shield (alternatively War Pick), unarmed fighting style, tough feat (so+3 hps with the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

High level Monks, with a good subclass, were pretty darn good in 2014. It was the tier 2 levels where they were behind Above level 13 or so the 2014 Long Death is probably the most durable martial in the 2014 rules.

    D&D 5E (2024) Is a heavy armored monk feasible?

Heavy Armor starts at 18 and goes to 20 with a shield. I think a naked Monk is 25 with the capstone and ASIs unless I am missing something (26 Dex, 24 Wisdom). If you are playing a heavy armor monk, I think you really want to go with a shield. Going without a shield is generally going to put...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

The thing is though that is the guy your allies are going to attack and hurt and if you are going nova on him there is a good chance he is not going to survive until his turn. It is more damage, but half of it is situational.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing and ability score drain?

I've never really seen people do Searing Smite over divine smite, partially because half the damage comes on their turn. Like the Green Flame Blade damage, it is situational .... usually if the BBEG is right after you it will work and if he is not right after you it won't work nearly as often...
