D&D 5E (2024) Two Weapon Fighting and Nick article

No. You can not add your modifier to the damage with the Scimitar. The rest of this is correct.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

As far as base mechanics and what is possible in 5E or 2024 I would agree. In play though an optimized fighter will generally destroy a caster in terms of average DPR or total damage over the course of a campaign. Part of this is that a caster using spell slots for damage is often wasting...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I don't run magic supermarkets either and niether do most of the games I play as a PC. But potions of Healing are an exception as they are adventuring gear in the PHB. Do you allow Alchemists Fire or spell foci?

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

I don't think it is unique at all. I am a believer in AI and use it extensively for art in my games (both as a DM and a player) but I have never played a D&D game without a real flesh and blood DM (not counting video games like BG3). I think a game where the DM says you can't buy standard PHB...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

No you can't. But I have been in many games where we run out of arrows or bolts or players that have those weapons and don't use them have to start handing them off to the archers. Running out of potions of healing in tier 2 has happened, but it is rare. The reason is your archers are using...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

It depends on the game. 50 potions is about the same cost as plate and the vast majority of games the warrior has enough for that by level 5. If you buy 30, that will usually last a long time, sometimes an entire adventure (as you augment with stuff you buyfind, rests Even if you only have...

D&D 5E (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

I think the best solution is not "fixing" the spells, but instead get rid of class/subclass abilities tied to specific spells.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

It is pretty easy. If you can maintain a stock of arrows and bolts for ranged characters, you can maintain a stock of potions of healing. It is not easy mid-dungeon, but any time you are in a town with adventuring gear for sale you can buy them. By level 5 or so I am generally leaving town...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Potions are restockable too, just on a different schedule than 2nd wind, but they also accumulate over days. There are campaigns you can't get a lot of them in, especially at low level, but speaking in generalities at most levels they are much less valuable than your second wind uses.

In some campaigns yes, not in others though.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

The vast majority of what was not rewritten is compatible. I can't think of a single player-facing thing that was not rewritten and is not compatible and that includes a fair amount in the 2014 PHB, but a ton of content in the other supplemental books. There are things that are 2014 things...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

That is a great homebrew, it makes sense and it is what I use at the table I DM (not those tables I am a player in). It is homebrew though, the rules are it is a bonus action to administer a potion of healing, which means any PC can be a healer. Sidenote - this also makes Second Wind nearly...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

This is all true, I mentioned potions because EVERY PC can use them, regardless of class, subclass and level.

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

I don't know the quote you refer to, the closest I know of is on page 8 where it talks extensively about why they use the term level, including some of the things you mention, and says the term is "prevalent among existing players". Nowhere does he say "we" that I see. He also stated in the...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

I believe he wrote all of what actually got published in Unearthed Arcana. I could be wrong on that, but there were a lot of stuff from Dragon by other authors that was more widely used in the games we played and more often revisited in the magazine, but did not make the official rules. This...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Spells weren't. If you are mixing and matching 2014 and 2024 classes then yes I agree with you, but as I noted earlier you should not be doing that. The subclasses, feats and spells are all pretty darn backwards compatible though and it is not like 2014 feats that were good before are useless...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

He is the sole author of the three core rulebooks, as well as at least one other hardcover. That is where 1E AD&D is different, and different even than some earlier D&D products. For example, the only other people credited in the AD&D 1E DMG are the illustrators and the only portion not...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Hit dice are not enough, but hit dice + healing potions are, and healing potions are regular adventuring gear. In the 2024 rules healing potions are a bonus action and you can also give someone else a healing potion as a bonus action too. This means any PC can be an effective healer, using...

D&D General I wish people would avoid name-dropping Gary Gygax

He is the author of most of the 1st edition hardcovers. He is essentially the person responsible for those, not just someone listed in the credits. I disagree with you on this WRT to 1E AD&D. When you read the AD&D 1E DMG or PHB you are literally reading Gygax personal writing on the subject...
