For example, despite some weak writing and some uh problematic stuff, I do enjoy Lawrence Watt-Evans’s Ethshar novels, which has for example several different sources of magic and magic “classes.”...

In the process of creating my own Vanity Frankenstein of 5E home rules, I have taken from 2024 D&D in a few spots where the change seemed for the better (exhaustion, a handful of spells), but otherwise the basis is 2014 with some 2E and 3E thrown in.

This is where our last session started (with the PCs captured!). Luckily, they pulled out a victory and the session ended with two days of safe long rests getting HPs and HD back.

Thankfully I’ve never wanted to be part of a target market or ever felt that buying anything put out by D&D’s publisher was necessary (or even conducive!) to playing D&D, except maybe for one person to have a PHB or starter set (any edition).
