Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Having their own domestic vertical integration for board games is pretty huge.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Honestly, the former were probably sufficient to sink the idea.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

They had the advantage that their key logistic planning took place when the initial rhetoric was on the horizon...but who could predict this??

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I don't think such a conspiracy theory is necessary, given how many people were absolutely vehement that they would never accept a template approach.

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

I'm sure a lot of thst is made in China: so, still not great for the hobby and industry. These tariffs could decimate companies like Wizkids or Beadles & Grimm.

D&D 5E (2014) According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D sales are up substantially.

Honestly, the most likely scenario is that they discovered they fit under the early retirement program at their new pay grade and decided it didn't make sense to keep working when they could take thst offer.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

I think it's actually pretty impressive they came up with a business plan to deal with up to 60% tariffs, considering how absurd that would have sounded a few months ago.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

To be honest, I think a lot of thst stuff such as Class Groups, just didn't spark joy for people. They failed on their own merits as interesting changes, most likely, no backwards compatibility fears. Though I do think unified Subclass progression scared players way more than it should have...

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Magic is also printed locally: Magic prints at such scale that it is affordable affordable them to print domestically. That's the thing, the big corporations in this field are the ones who were able to afford not outsourcing due to economies of scale: the smaller indies are the ones who turned...

Yeah, but Hadbro doesn't pay for those, they just collect the license fees. Hasbro is protected from risk there.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

Another update on the Stormlight RPG and tariffs today: Today's update will focus almost entirely on tariffs, and how we're planning to manage them for this campaign. Before we dive into that topic, we're happy to report that production continues to be right on schedule. We've produced the...

    D&D General Western-Inspired D&D adventures

I'd say that Princes of the Apocalypse would need basically next to no changes to be a more "Western" aside from some aesthetics: the small towns threatened by cultist bandits would work well enough. Same goes for Lost Mines of Phandelver. Both would be more Pacific Northwest, bu that vibe...

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

If WotC has proven anything over rge decades, it is that they lack the ability to shape the tastes of the public: they are more successful when they pursue the existing tastes, and fail when they try to shape them

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

When I was playing around wirh DallE image generation, I was actually quite surprised that when fed the text from this module...the AI produced fairly coherent imagery. It is turgid prose, and not at all good...but it does at least paint a picture, I guess?

    Wheel of Time S3

Yeah, if they can pull off even a semblance in 7 seasons, thst would be a pretty impressive feat of editing...but it is feasible. I'm not super duper pleased with the shortcuts they have made to get there but given the constraints of their medium they may be necessary.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

The bigger indie publishers are mostly printing in China, however: I think RPGs as a hobby will do fine, and the bigger companies (WotC, Paizo) will do fine, as will smaller more hobbyist designers...but the smaller companies thst were big enough to get office space and warehouses, and peint in...
