D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

No, it takes a long time when people are new to the game and are presented with 9 races and 12 classes, many of which don't actually have obvious literary equivalents. Narrow that down to 2 or 3 of each and things get a lot easier. Not everyone knows the game as well as you and I.

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

I actually think you didn't go far enough here. A thug rogue also needs medium armor to avoid having the lowest AC in the game (which is very bad for a melee character), so give rogues that as well. It doesn't help dex rogues at all, and doesn't increase the highest possible AC a rogue can get...

D&D 5E (2014) Back to DnD after 12 years break. DM-ing questions thread.

Right... But you can see why I might be confused when you said "He also has a breath attack for 48 damage", when what he actually has is a breath attack for 24 damage that might hit 2 people, and half the time it will do 12 damage to 2 people. I think that sort of thing is why the CR system...

D&D 5E (2014) Back to DnD after 12 years break. DM-ing questions thread.

a 48 hitpoint breath weapon is capable of instantly killing some 3rd level characters, and instantly KOing many 5th level characters. That's probably enough to make the guy CR 5 on it's own.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Wizard without a spell book...........

There's a bunch of spells that need no M. Almost all cantrips, for instance. Additionally a lot of the material components for low level spells are things they could just scrounge up. Color spray, for instance means you need to find some red, yellow and blue sand. Grease requires some pork rind...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

Which works great! IF all of character creation is just as fast as this bit. But in 5e, that's not the case. So what can we do to make it the case? 1. Your class is selected for you, somehow. OD&D had attribute minimums to limit your class choices down to only a few possibilities. I think the...

    D&D 5E (2014) sharpshooter math meaning

None of which are particularly satisfying, and all of which rely on the very narrow "shooting a humanoid in the head" scenario.

    D&D 5E (2014) sharpshooter math meaning

I think he's more talking about "why is it easier to hit a guy in cover than a guy that's prone/a small target/a sensitive bit of a large target" or "why is it easier to hit a guy at range, but short range targets don't get easier to hit" or "why does taking a penalty to hit deplete my opponents...

    D&D 5E (2014) sharpshooter math meaning

I think his point is to try to narrate what sharpshooter is doing. Which is pretty much impossible because it was clearly designed as "mechanics first".

    D&D 5E (2014) Which Deities Should I Use?

I'm currently using both the greyhawk and FR deities. Pantheons have tons of overlap between portfolios anyway, so why not? This way I can run adventures set in either place. The only thing I really need to do is write up a matrix of hostility/friendliness between all the faiths. I'll just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Carpenter's vs. Woodcarver's

That level of detail - just say that a woodcarving/carpentry kit is sufficient. Otherwise the character has spent 1600 hours learning a skill, and somehow didn't learn the things he actually wanted to do... Now sure, maybe there is some niche where the thing a player wants to do is so obscure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Carpenter's vs. Woodcarver's

But why bother with that level of detail in a world where the difference between 1600 hours of one-on-one training with a master and no training at all is that you fail 10% less often?

    D&D 5E (2014) Water Management? :)

Go on google maps. Find a country that matches your mental idea of the area for your D&D campaign. Zoom the map until it covers ~24 miles, the distance you travel in a day. Note that unless the area you have chosen is what most people would describe as "desert", "wasteland" or "barren", then...

D&D 5E (2014) Where do you get silver powder?

Just grind up some silver coins. The ritual doesn't require "high grade silver powder", just silver in powder form to a certain value. Although personally I'd much prefer that it's only created by priests of gods that dislike the undead, and is generated for free.

    D&D 5E (2014) Carpenter's vs. Woodcarver's

The difference is simply in the spelling. The authors probably only included both on the list to pad word count. I have no doubt that they put no thought into the actual entries, any more than they really put thought into the tool proficiency system itself.

D&D 5E (2014) Way of the Dragon Monk tradition?

True. On the gripping hand, it is restricted to fire damage, cannot be gained in line form, is a spell and has V and S components. However, I think you're right: d4s is probably too low, given the comparison. d6s sounds like it would be better balanced. Incidentally, looking more closely: Put...

D&D 5E (2014) Way of the Dragon Monk tradition?

I'd put the dragon breath way earlier in the list too. Thematically thats one of the first things the term "dragon" brings to mind, so it should be part of the flavour for most of the character's playtime, which means most of their levels. As for how good it is? 4 element monk gets 3d10 damage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

If you are doing that, why not go whole hog and get a 35' diameter hexagon?

    D&D 5E (2014) sharpshooter math meaning

It also doesn't make sense because you'd think that being able to aim accurately would reduce the armor class of a foe, a'la bard.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you measure, and enforce, alignment?

Sure, once you boil things down to maths. There's entire fields of computer science, law and literature about just how hard that is to do. P Not-P See how I'm confused? This is just re-stating "you are wrong", without any actual reasons.
