D&D 5E (2014) adjusting 5E zombies to be like walkers?

They're also hard of vision, because they regularly walk past zombies to shoot(!) other zombies, and then get surprised while they're celebrating the kill by the zombie they just walked past. Heck, it's probably still in their peripheral vision.

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

It's not how modern keyholes work, but go back 50 or so years and it's pretty accurate.

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposed Fix for Whack-a-Mole Healing

Cue tons of wasting the day so you can long rest, because otherwise you'll die.

    Wereravens. Wereravens Everywhere.

Make an ever-escalating roll to change back from a raven to a person. For the first week, no problem. After that you need a DC 2 (something) check to change from a raven to a human, and the DC increases by 1 per day. You probably also want to have the occasional shifting while asleep, so you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rules - Wind and arrows?

The archer PC can't take out the opposing crew because the opposing crew are in full cover once they realize they're getting picked off. Any sensible ship of war is fully functional with the crew out of line of sight. If you have an archer with the sharpshooter feat, you need to address things...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

Well, everyone kind of HAS to, because it costs you 100gp per week to even have a chance of finding someone who might sell you a few. And then they cost 20-70gp each. And then 1/10 of them turn out to be cursed, fake, stolen, enslaved intelligent entities, twice the price or cost you your soul...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

Right.. but warhammer quest doesn't have any non-dungeon stats or skills. Everything is a set-up for the boardgame dungeon crawl. Your character literally consists of 8 combat stats and their combat gear. D&D has more than that, and these rules even make use of those extra abilities, but then...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

The complications tables are a bit crappy. Too many are "this thing already happened", when the thing in question is something you would have had to actively participate in. The gambling complications table has "you get a debt that can't be paid in cash", even if you are successful and make...

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposed Fix for Whack-a-Mole Healing

I think that heal from 0 doesn't really make much of a difference. The simple fact is that in-combat healing is a poor proposition (ie - it's limited, small, takes up valuable actions, typically can only be done by one or two PCs), and it's very difficult to say that pro-active healing is going...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

"I don't know, what IS it's title?" I tend to get players to roll insight any time I think that an NPC has something ulterior. Most of the time it's pretty innocent, which means me asking for a roll doesn't immediately set my players thumbs prickling. Successful rolls either further an...

D&D 5E (2014) adjusting 5E zombies to be like walkers?

Yeah, I considered that change so trivial that I didn't think it was worth mentioning... but discussion of it does have some merit. If you're looking to have this disease be any kind of threat, then it can't be curable by a first level paladin or a second level spell.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me create a locked room whodunit adventure!!!!

So first up: who can throw up a long lasting force wall on an entire residence while not being able to use divination to establish the murderer? So either the murderer is whomever is putting up the force wall OR the divination did not work for some reason. Divinations not working might suggest...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

"What do I roll to attack?" Same thing you rolled to attack for every attack in D&D for the last 8 years...

D&D 5E (2014) adjusting 5E zombies to be like walkers?

Hmm, zombies similar to TWD? Step 1: make their movement speed 5 feet. Step 2: reduce their attack bonus to +0 Step 3: rename their slam to 'bite', add mummy rot from the mummy entry to it Step 4: repeatedly don't place 1/3rd of the zombies that are in an encounter on the board so that your PCs...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Thoughts (Spell Points, Invocations, Blade Pact)

...which is reasonable, since none of those things are guaranteed. Feats and multi classing are optional. Magic items (especially specific weapons) are variable. Having the wizard cast magic weapon is far from guaranteed, because not only does it use up a level 4 spell, it also uses his...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you shove or grapple a creature that you're riding?

Are you suggesting that no DM you've ever had or observed has ever proposed an ability check for an action when other rules exist for resolving it? Are you the DM for your group, and therefore that's why you assume no DM ever misses a rule? Have you polled your players to confirm that you are...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you shove or grapple a creature that you're riding?

End up was meant to indicate through multiple DMs. And it's not really that poor a choice for the DM to make: DMs typically are handling creatures that don't have multiple attacks in the same way the PCs do, so you get used to the idea that an action that takes an attack is synonymous with an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Proposed Fix for Whack-a-Mole Healing

I'd second the answer "no mechanical change is necessary, just hit them when they're down". 3 failed saves from death is a pretty thin line. Just a singe extra melee attack can take that down to 1 failed save. Make it clear that being unconscious isn't a safe zone, and your players will stop...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you shove or grapple a creature that you're riding?

I think a lot of people can't get past the name of the maneuver: "shove". First up: shove can do one of two things - either render a creature prone, or move it 5 feet away from you. Can I imagine someone doing something that would render the creature they are riding prone? Yes. Can I imagine...
