    What's your style?

Why don't the GM and "players" write a book or movie when there is no possibility of character death? See, I can make ridiculous statements too.

    What's your style?

I don't see much point in that either.

    What's your style?

I don't like "mook" rules, even in genres where it makes sense. Sorry, but just wiping the floor of the help because "you're that good" doesn't add anything to the dynamic.

    Am I doing it wrong?

I'm a roll in the open guy. My reasoning is simple: it's there right in front of you, your argument is invalid. Apologies for the meme, but that's how I feel. Adventuring, to your common person, would be considered an extremely bizarre way to commit suicide. That said, most creatures have a...

How to End A Campaign with No BBEG?

Villains don't have to be Evil, or even people. Step one is to release the idea of needing boss fights. End with a pseudo medieval version of the United Nations?

    Fantasy RPG without levels?

I've had experience with GURPS 3e, and while I hear creation is more involved, I think HERO gets a better feel. A somewhat simpler non-level generic is Tri-Stat dX, the fan-named (and company adopted) name for the system for Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM). Ars Magica has already been mentioned...

Thy Dungeonman - Click to enter yon dungeon.

The fask is bolted to a load bearing typo. I liked the idea presented in the third game that dungeons are living things that move around.

Why A GM Can Never Have Too Many Bestiaries

As someone who used to be all "new shiny" and who was once convinced by an employee to buy a bestiary I originally did not intend to buy, I'm going to disagree. I was also one of those people who carried every single book related to the setting, even those that might not even see use. The basis...

Your most anticipated games of 2016?

I'm not even sure what you mean by "narrative bent". For the card game, I don't care about the story, I just want to fight villains and use variations of the heroes I like. Not really fond of dice pool mechanics, even though I own the core World of Darkness book, Changeling the Lost, and...

Your most anticipated games of 2016?

I was moderately interested in the upcoming Sentinels of the Multiverse RPG until I read that it was going to use the Fate Core system, which I have learned game from Fudge. This is mostly an "I only like specialty dice with more (or fewer) sides, and sometimes just as a novelty" thing. Would I...

What are some of your favorite mechanics from a D20 system (not just dnd)?

I like that in World Tree, succeeding too well (Triumph 3+: beating what you need by 30 or more) is "good with bad", just as the botches can sometimes still succeed in a "bad with some good" way.

    Ars Magica 4th Edition Revival!

I have a friend whose wife runs the U-Con Gaming Convention Game Days who is running an Ars Magica campaign in the modern world. Thought he called it "Ars Technica" and have also seen references to something similar around the Internet. Unfortunately, I do not know what edition he is using. I'm...

What are some of your favorite mechanics from a D20 system (not just dnd)?

I'm not sure the question I had is entirely answered by the first post. To a certain point, it seems that be d20 system you mean "system that uses d20 as the dominant die", yet the majority of your examples are officially "d20 System". Going with the idea that you meant the latter, although...

    Suffering from gaming withdrawal :(

I have to ask: how much effort are each of you putting into looking for a group? Not just brick and mortar, checking the Internet too. Also, have you considered starting your own? Game stores aren't the only places you can put up recruitment flyers, though it is prudent to purchase something if...

    Where Has the Magic Gone?

I was worried about the possible CCGification of D&D. When I was in high school, Magic killed my RPG group, and those who got sucked in kept calling it an RPG to convince me to play it. A few years ago, I did play a couple games, both of which I lost. I was taught by a seven year old and his...

If you like RPG, surely you've seen The Gamers movies. Right?

Yes, I've seen The Gamers, but that was years after I started gaming, and don't call me Shirley. I was interested in The Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising, but have not seen it. Until reading this topic I didn't know about The Gamers: Natural 20.

How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

Tony, I obviously disagree with your assessment of D&D and d20 Modern. It's the subsystems that drive me away from D&D. It got me into tabletop RPGs, yes, but I've noticed what I don't like about it.

How many people do you know who haven't switched to 5e, and why haven't they?

Well for me, that's easy where things don't require much thought, streamlined being the core mechanic remaining the core mechanic most of the time (e.g., no sub-system for grappling), and complex where you need to put more thought into it than "I hit target X" or "I cast such and such spell at...

    State of Virtual Tabletop Usage

I need to ask the Fantasy Ground developers some questions now that it's available on Steam. A long time ago I paid for the GM license for it directly, but I don't even remember which of my four (at the time) e-mail addresses I used.

    Is there a Command skill

Forbidden Kingdoms, by OtherWorld Creations, Inc. has a Leadership skill. It's used for motivation and provides a +1 morale bonus on all saving throws on a successful check vs. DC 15. For every 5 points over 15 the check makes, an additional +1 is added to a maximum of +5.
