Flat rate of damage: An optional damage system

I know, I've played GURPS too. Within World Tree, the system I was talking about, I can think of exactly two weapons that do flat damage: the crossbow (8 base), and a Zi Ri's fire breath (base 2, increment 2). The crossbow because it's a machine, the flame because exactly how would your strength...

    Buying odd size dice

Crystal Caste has some wedge shaped ones. At this moment, I'm not sure if you have to buy them as part of a set or if you can buy them individually.

Two different perspectives on character concept

If nothing else, you've been me hooks for the background. "Love of country?", or city-state in this case, is covered by zir (because Zi Ri don't get a gender choice and are all hermaphrodites) having the "Guard Warrior Experience" advantage. Internal conflict comes more from mechanics in this...

Two different perspectives on character concept

True, in itself "Warrior Mage" tells me only I want to fight, and I want to use magic. Well, given that every World Tree character starts with spells anyway, that's a little bit given. However; the honest way of making a character is so that the base spells are basic household or professional...

D&D 5E (2014) A viable game and the vicious edition cycle

A system I talk about a lot, World Tree, has had no official updates in 13-14 years. A few years ago there was talk of a Bestiary and rules for playing non-Primes, but as I was not part of those selected, I don't know much about it. Recently the authors' son has become old enough to be...

How to deal with this DM?

Is it? Bad news tends to travel faster than good news. There was a pair of ratios I heard at some point, I think it was something like 1:2 for good service or whatever (if you get good service, a good price, whatever: you tell 2 people), the other was 1:10 for bad service, whatever (if you get...

Two different perspectives on character concept

For me "Warrior Mage" was just a base. A base that starts with WCID, yes, but a base none the less. Getting there gives me input for WIA.

I approve of both of these changes. Smite X should just be Smite, take Alignment mechanics out of the equation.

How to deal with this DM?

Correct, and I have had management courses, and understood them so I can point out poor management when I see it.

    D&D 5E (2014) This Game is Deadly

You can't please everyone. To aim to do so is the height or arrogance. Here's a link to a Game Theory episode. The most important bit falls between 2:14 and 2:40. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyXcr6sDRtw

D&D 5E (2014) Comment on the negative article by John Dodd

It must be hard to review without revealing spoilers when you have an advance copy. Reviewing with vagueness would just be even weirder.

Flat rate of damage: An optional damage system

No, by mentioning another game I meant that the game was not included in your list. The damage usually isn't flat either. Most of the time it's based off a calculation that uses the character's Strength. Generally some innate modifier + characters Strength (or Strength/2, rounded up or down...

Well, depending on which collection of Norse Myths you're reading, when you get to the last chapter: Ragnarok is either going to happen or has already happened.

D&D 5E (2014) Comment on the negative article by John Dodd

Without negative comments, it's harder to come up with an informed opinion. I'm probably weird, I tend to skip two kinds of reviews on Amazon.com: 5-star and 1-star. As far as I'm concerned, a 5-star review is usually a biased behind-kissing, while a 1-star is biased the other way towards being...

Golf. They already look like golf balls, though I imagine the outer clear plastic cracking on the first hit.

Flat rate of damage: An optional damage system

I have a game that usually does this, except it's based on the weapon, not the target. The main die in this game is also a d20.

    Buying odd size dice

Yes and no. I will always use percentile dice over an actual d100. Two reasons: they take forever to stop, and even when they do, it's hard to tell what number is actually on top.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Paladin excerpt

Not to derail too far, but I've allowed evil characters in mostly non-evil parties. Basically, they had enough maturity to be evil to the world at large, but not the people they're working with. It may also have helped that I allowed one player to play a half-human half-erinyes tiefling. This...

You just broke my brain Kobold. Using your analogy, I could reasonably argue that Æon Flux is a paladin.
