How balanced should a game be?

Given that ENWorld is so D&D/Pathfinder-centric that if you don't specify what system you're talking about it, it will assumed to be one of those, I think it's fair to assume that others would assume a D&D slant. Even media that has the research still uses D&D as the fallback because "that's...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Paladin excerpt

I'm a bit disturbed by the use of female pronouns next to a clearly male picture. Quite frankly, I don't want to add "Half-Orcs" to the "females have beards too!" line. The most important bit to me, which it seems isn't revealed on the pages we're given is: Can they fall?

How to deal with this DM?

If I were the manager I'd tell him that his outburst was even more inappropriate than his original behavior, and that I don't want to be friends with people who cannot behave appropriately in a public setting, probably with a warning about a ban for further complaints about his behavior.

How to deal with this DM?

That depends a lot on what your hard limits on gaming are. No gaming is better than gaming with dicks.

Where do you buy your gaming stuff?

Because game and hobby stores are somewhat difficult to get to (high traffic area, high parking meter charges except on Sundays, some lots you can't park in without permits again except at certain times or Sundays), I've been buying through RPGNow.com when I want something. While I know they've...

How balanced should a game be?

I started replying before fully reading the initial post, and I agree that not all choices should be equal. Being bad at things often makes for better games and stories than being remarkably good at a small skill set and terrible at everything else. To me optimization = overspecialization...

    Buying odd size dice

What you're getting at by saying "size" I usually refer to by "shape". To me "odd size" means "really small" or "really big".

    D&D 5E (2014) It's the Sorcerer!

Much better art than any of the 5e female characters I've seen so far. Also far superior to the 3.x Sorcerer art.

So You're Just Not "Feeling It" for 5e - What ARE you excited about?

My problem with Bennies as SW presents them is they are very much "this happens because I have a chip representing this metagame concept that I am now paying you with". I think I prefer how Fate points work in HARP or Belief Points work in 2E Planescape. Especially because both have hard caps...

Two different perspectives on character concept

Perhaps I have you at a disadvantage when one of the systems I have available, World Tree, has "regular person" as a valid adventurer concept. Though generally it's something like "regular person who's never held a sword in her life is given a sword as a present by an extended family member"...

Two different perspectives on character concept

I can't really think about both equally. Even then, I don't think of them separately either. Maybe for a one-shot I'll do skills and powers and throw the rest to the wind. Even when I do have a character concept, sometimes motivation takes a while. Generally my structure is something like this...

Hmm, no Rolemaster, Harp, or Merp Tag/ Where is the rolemaster/merp "Delivering a baby" skill chart?

There might be some non-system-specific options. For one HARP game, we used one of the "Central Casting" books for backgrounds, which gave a lot more detail than simply picking race and culture.

D&D 5E (2014) "Evil" options limited to the DMG?

I'm not going to bother going back and quoting, but I flat out disagree with a lot of the alignments for death gods that have been worshiped here on Earth. Hel is only considered evil because of her dad, and even Loki didn't do that much in the myths that was obviously evil. Sure, Hel does make...

D&D 5E (2014) "Evil" options limited to the DMG?

I wasn't going to reply to this, but then I saw the OP mentioned the Death Domain. "Death = Evil" has been to undeath, and it's not true to boot. Because I'm not following 5E, I don't know if the Death domain is going to be a bunch of death-causing spells, but based on the concern I'd wager "yes".

Hmm, no Rolemaster, Harp, or Merp Tag/ Where is the rolemaster/merp "Delivering a baby" skill chart?

You'll probably get better responses about ICE products on their forums. When I played RM in the '90s, I'd always say that Jackie Chan's death will be caused by a fumble on his tooth brushing roll.

"Focus on shorter games"? I'm excited

I no longer have the patience for campaigns, they sound good when you (or your GM) thinks them up, but then they can seem to not be progressing when they're actually in motion. So in some ways this will be a good thing, as I prefer mini-arcs (a handful of months to a real time year of loosely...

So You're Just Not "Feeling It" for 5e - What ARE you excited about?

I'm curious why you don't like exploding dice. Having said that, I admit I was confused when I first heard the term, thus in my case saying "open-ended" dice initially would have been better. As I said upthread, I have my own issues with Savage Worlds. One of them I think is related to...

So You're Just Not "Feeling It" for 5e - What ARE you excited about?

I've never found a generic system that can make what I want an ability to do the way I feel it should work. Having said that, some have come close. Between GURPS and Hero, I'll take Hero even with no exposure to the actual book. Without a comparison of GURPS4e and whatever edition Hero is on...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

Continuing to use World Tree, the average magic shop is mostly going to have Cplx. 5 and 10 spells, and most of those are simple buffs, householdy things, and simple protection. This is because the spell seller's main customers are the commoners, it's easier to transcribe simpler spells, the...
