Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

It wouldn't get to the point where I'd married her before I noticed. Needy is not attractive. It's why I've been rejected sometimes. So I'd dump her as soon as it became obnoxious. Though I don't put a lot of stock in relationship advice (because it doesn't take into account that the author is...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

Where are you getting this "most" from? It's an extremely dangerous qualifier. Handwaving caused about 98% of what I think was bad for D&D, particularly granting PrCs by handwaving the RP requirements.

In my book, your SO is allowed exactly two calls when they know you're at a game, and usually just the first one. The first one to make sure you made it and to find out when you'll be heading back. Call two is for when the game runs longer than scheduled. Any more than that and I'd be looking...

Still too often and seriously sounds like time for a new SO. If your SO can't handle being without you for a few hours, it's a preview of the rest of the relationship IMAO.

I think those of us opposed to tech as a source of distraction all appreciate tech being used for the game. Recently, I was printerless, and was going to actively encourage tech for that reason. That's one of the reasons I'm working on a World Tree character generator: taking a lot of paper out...

To further clarify my point, if it is an emergency, the only contact method that should be used is the phone.

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

You are the one assuming a high supply of adventurers, not me. I've taken economics too: low supply of adventurers = low demand for powerful magic items. As for Joe Dummy, I chose a patently ridiculous idea because I have seen it spread so much over these board and others of "has magic that can...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

Pretty much only adventurers are going to put in the research for a powerful magic item, so demand is going to stay low, or they're going to spend the time to make it themselves. A king or other nobility may have heard of a powerful item, but that's one guy wanting something that even in a...

So You're Just Not "Feeling It" for 5e - What ARE you excited about?

I originally ignored the sample character sheet for 5e on the front page because I wasn't interested. Having actually looked at there are some things I do like: returning movement to feet instead of "squares", some of the stuff on the right "sidebars". But there isn't enough that I like for me...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

There are many mundane answers to this question. Do you really think it's that hard to get bat poop? Gems/Sulphur/Ores: Duh, mines. For me, magic shops inserted into a setting where there are not actually mentioned in setting breaks immersion a bit for me. It also raises other assumptions...

I take the opposite side on the socialization: we're at the game to interact with the people present. As far as I'm concerned, unless it's an emergency your spouse or kids should not be calling, IMing, or texting you while you're at the game. Same opinion for friends. The game is the important...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

And yet, it's never occurred in actual play in a game I've been playing or running. On the other hand, there are several posters here who give me the impression they'd throw a temper tantrum if they couldn't get magic item X at the rulebook's list price, or that it didn't happen to be available...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

The assumption that a setting has an economy that would support them. More to the point: the player's assumption that the magic store has what he wants to buy and that the store owner is willing to part with it for the exact rulebook listed price, or from the opposite side, that the seller wants...

So you enter the "Magic Shoppe", and inside you see...what ?

The only game I have where I'd actually consider Magic Shoppes appropriate is World Tree, where they are an assumed part of the world. Everyone knows about them. They sell boxed spells for you to graft: a wooden box with a spark of magic to be examined and grafted to your magerium. Parents buy...

I really don't want to get too off topic on the Autism/Asperger's tangent, but I did ask on Yahoo! Answers if it were possible to be autistic and not know. Looking back at my own childhood behavior shows many things that could have been symptoms. At the same time, I have a problem with the...

I'm glad you're at least giving me the benefit of the doubt. No, I certainly don't think all people with disabilities are faking it. What Ruin Explorer failed to understand is that he does not get to tell me what I've actually seen or what my attitude is. Often not from the disabled people...

Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

Anecdote time. I entered a World Tree character I had done on paper into the calculated Excel sheet I'm working on. Thanks to my checks and balances, I found that I had mis-re-added experience when changing the levels of a skill, as evidenced by XP in the category pool being negative, as well as...

Please don't read your emotions into other people's posts as if they were theirs. I've had issues with math too, because I had to suffer with a form of new math called "Semiral" when I was in elementary, and it was detrimental to my math grades until high school. IQ . . . I laugh at IQ. I'm...

Creating crossover between tabletop RPG and live-action crowds

I LARPed once. The transition from tabletop to LA didn't jive with me somehow.
