CHALLENGE: Campaigns that NOBODY would want to play in

None of the monsters want to do anything evil. The orcs? They're just looking for a good cup of coffee. The ancient evil dragon? S/he just wants to play a game of chess. The ancient sealed evil? It just wants you to put a snooze button on its alarm clock.

Dragon Reflections #18 – Gamers Behaving Badly

And Flumphs will still be ridiculous, but loved anyway!

How will your gaming-purchase habits change in 2019?

A fair number of adventures that seemed like they'd be fun to run, but I never offered, or by the time I remembered we were already on D&D 3.0. "Middle" World of Darkness stuff, I like that Changeling: The Lost is closer to changeling stories, and I like that Changing Breeds made it so you...

How will your gaming-purchase habits change in 2019?

Few purchases, more selling of things I no longer use or have never used even as reference.

Joke Names you've never used...but want to.

Well, the first character I made for HARP SF. She's a Gorsiva (bird-like person, but wing membranes inflate, no hollow bones), Fusion Scout (Psion/Scout hybrid), from the Frontier culture. Her name is Jynifer "Jynee" Tutohn, she has the training package "MegaCorp Mercenary", work(s/ed) for...

    Drinking Problem

I've played games where there's been alcohol at the table, either because we're already in a restaurant that serves it, or because someone brought a pack of something that we share. When it has been case #2, it's never been more than 2 drinks per person. Heavier drinking has occurred when it's...

Rules as Law vs. Rules as Guidelines

I admit, especially with AD&D2E, I was quite the house ruler. Even house rules for "I think X would be cool" have to be taken with a grain of "can I already do that with the written rules?".

Rules as Law vs. Rules as Guidelines

If I need to change rule, I need to know why I'm changing it. If I need to change a lot of rules to make the game work, I need to ask why I'm still using that system.

Rules as Law vs. Rules as Guidelines

As I've grown to like other systems, while realizing how glaring some of the "flaws" in others are, I much prefer systems where I have very little reason to house rule the official rules into something else. Even so, players should realize that sometimes the GM makes mistakes, remembering a rule...

Best way to sell a HUGE gaming collection?

Sometimes, you just know you aren't going to use a product anymore. I enjoyed AD&D 2E, warts and all, and when I go back and look at the books I realize just how bad those warts were. May as well sell them to someone who's either willing to deal with the gigantic warts or resell the books to...

Best way to sell a HUGE gaming collection?

I am realizing how much too much stuff I have after I had to move back in with my father. After speaking with college friends at a gaming convention in Minnesota, one said he'd probably just hold on to his stuff than try to sell it. That won't work with me, some day my dad is going to die, but...

What level do you like your tabletop RPGs to allow you to achieve?

As I will be entering my 40s this year, I find that I'm not interested in save the world/universe/multiverse campaigns as I once was (upcoming board game expansions not withstanding). I'm actually less of a campaign person now, and more of a "series" person. The obvious answer is that it...

Funny Quotes for the Cannon Fodder?

Stats. Hate them ? Love them ? Think they can be better ? Or an outdated concept ?

I have played and GMed games with as few as three stats (appropriately the system is named Tri-Stat originating from BESM) to as many as 10. In AD&D 2E I sometimes used the Player's and DM's Option books which further broke down the stats so D&D PO characters effectively had 18 stats. I don't...

Portals between Sigil and the Outlands

I think the general idea is that there are portals at "midpoints" on the Outlands, close enough to the gate-towns for caravans, but still some distance from the spire. Of course, there may also be portals that lead directly to regular towns on the Outlands.

Portals between Sigil and the Outlands

I don't think it would be all that useful for portals to lead directly to the Outlands. To specific Gate-Towns to get you to the plane you need stuff from, yes.

Meaning of Vikings Campaign Sourcebook name?

Hmm, well the Norse did have a penchant for deliberately erronous nicknames, or to go with How to Train Your Dragon "to scare trolls".

    Power Gaming vs Role Playing

All munchkins are power gamers, not all power gamers are munchkins. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to game at a higher power level. Problems only arise when either spotlight hogs get in the way of other players' characters, or other players' characters aren't really contributing...

Meaning of Vikings Campaign Sourcebook name?

There is a female name in the Viking Campaign Sourcebook that would sound cool with Norwegian pronunciation, but I have no idea what the name means. Fjotra is the name, which in Norwegian pronunciation would be "Fyotrah". I've used name meaning searches to find what this name means to no result...
