Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

You must have missed me mentioning kender while talking about gnomes on the first page then. I watched someone talking about Sting in Hobbit/LotR and he suggested that hobbits might want a human sized weapon for the reach advantage. There are some cases where that would work and others where...

When a man plays a woman

I'm physically male, and growing up, most friends my age were female. This made my brain a lot more female than male, though not so far as being transgender. Stereotypical men have been put off when I'm not into male stereotype hobbies. I've played female characters for cliche reasons, and also...

    Adding more rp

I think your player who made the comment would do well to talk with the whole group. While Hack & Slash is a playstyle that many enjoy, not everyone does, and it's the easiest playstyle to burn out on. Previous posters have already covered ways they could solve the issue without going straight...

    When does a TPK occur?

I read far too much of that on forums. The reason is that people simply aren't aware that retiring a character is an option.

Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

I'm not fond of game currency being called "Bennies" in Savage Worlds. Bards really didn't have much of an actual niche until D&D 3.x, though other systems may have had them more focused. Gnomes also seemed to fail to have niche that wasn't already filled by elves or dwarves. Some systems and...

Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

I was recently confused by the treatment of psionics in HARP SF, but a re-read and a highlighting will sharpen the part I had a question about. Some psionics systems are poorly designed, and I think a lot more are GMs who don't fully understand the psionics rules.

Ever been tempted to forbid something for a silly reason?

As a Game Master, have you ever been tempted to forbid something from the game for a reason you realized was silly? I know I have. HARP SF has a species called "Krakur" (plural "Krakuren"), and I was tempted to forbid that species because of all the jokes about "crackers" we all know we'd make...

    Non-hostile Monsters (in a dungeon)

Well, someone has to clean up those traps. All those dead bodies will really stink up the place. * A "hostile" monster who's under some punishment who helps the party to get revenge. (I think Hellbound used this) * children: if this is where the monsters live, it's likely some will have kids.

    When does a TPK occur?

When players assume that every single fight is specifically "balanced" to their party and they don't have the sense to run when they're getting their behinds served to them. To be fair, there as some GMs who are jerks and will close off routes for escape.

How Old is Your Oldest Die?

Late '80s / Early '90s for the first set of dice I intentionally bought for gaming.

How Old is Your Oldest Die?

Depends on if you mean the ones I intentionally got for gaming, or the d6s I raided from board games.

    Support Munchkins/Powerplayers?

I think it's important to note that Power Gamers are not necessarily Munchkins, and that all Munchkins are Power Gamers. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to play at a higher power level. It becomes wrong when you're a dick about it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

When I attended a religious high school (by deception on their part), one of the major magazines they had about spreading the word was called "Charisma". I later attended a Catholic college that was much more inclusive of other beliefs. Just a little anecdote.

    D&D 5E (2014) Clerics and Wisdom

I haven't gone to 5th edition, nor even 4th, but it has recently struck me that clerics and sorcerers have their spellcasting stats backward. So, I agree, clergy should cast from Charisma and sorcerers from Wisdom.

How Do Mobile Devices Affect Your Game?

Mobile technology causes a problem in the Pathfinder game I'm in that's supposedly coming to a conclusion. Even worse because it's the GM's phone, and he's looking things up at the table. While he is using it for the game, it would be much better if he'd made notes before the game because he...

Micro Machines RPG--or--easiest to learn RPG

I'm not even sure how one would make a an RPG about Micro Machines. As for easy, I'm sorry, but everyone's "easy" is different.

    D&D 3.x 5E backgrounds for 3.5e

In an AD&D 2E game, my GM came up with a different kind of character generation. One thing he added was the characters having a hobby that played into their development.

What's the Next Great Leap Forward in RPG Mechanics?

You see: great leaps forward. Through my filter I see: gamers getting really lazy. It's all groovy to like a mechanic or dislike it, but to see them as objectively better or worse for tabletop gaming as a whole just grinds my gears.

Me and friends got some 3.5e books, wondering where to start from ?

While I understand the like and push for the current edition, I'm going to disagree with delericho's first statement. Simplicity is not always a good thing: oversimplification is a real thing. As for your other questions, bbgun21, I believe the others have given great answers.
