    Dragon 326

I received #326 about midway through last week. This is the first time in a few years that I've received my subscriber copy before the FLGS got their newstand copies, and it is about damned time. Getting it first is co-equal with the reduced price in terms of the primary reasons to subscribe...

What New WotC Base Classes are you using

At present, I'm not allowing any basic classes outside of the PHB. (Hell, right now I'm not even allowing Monks.) That will change after I get some time to pull out my books again and put some serious thought into the non-core basic classes; some of them look like fun on paper, and some of...

Do You Use the Core Pantheon?

The pantheon is of Greyhawk, so--save for those co-existing in the Realms--they stay there.

    Who's excited about Blue Rose?

Thanks for the very useful reply. Alas, that is what I suspected and therefore I shall likely give Blue Rose a pass.

    Who's excited about Blue Rose?

What, exactly, is meant by "romance"?

    Ragnarock for the Scarred Lands

I glad that there is a definitive word one way or the other. It's sad to see it die, but I'd expect that the wise in the business are already analyzing the matter to figure out what went wrong and how to use the experience gained to make better products in the future.

    Dragon #325 has arrived

I routinely get my copies of Dungeon and Dragon about two or three weeks after my FLGS gets their copies. It's bloody annoying to have to wait while others get to make use of the new hotness straight away.

    Cryptosnark ripped me off

A tangential aside: Scott Lynch has sold his first novel--"The Lies of Locke Lemora"--and now has a contract for three more novels. He's as good as gone from RPG development.

    Looking for Scott Lynch

The man's written a novel, gotten an editor for it and is now working on selling the rights to various world markets. If it does well, then there's more of the same to come. I'd not count on him doing more than fulfilling outstanding obligations anymore, as he's moved on to a more profitable...

    D&D has threatened my job!

Irrelevant. It's the principle that matters, and a man that will not stand on principle isn't a man at all. Nothing else in life matters than to stand for principle.

Guys playing girls (chime in, ladies)

Here's mine: that stuff is all marketing, put there specifiically to maximize the game's appeal and thus draw in the broadest possible audience, specifically for the reason that--in actual play--what the world is like is determined by the DM. By going with a marketing-based illusion, WotC...

Guys playing girls (chime in, ladies)

The current edition of the rules don't make such distinctions because WotC correctly deduced that it would be better for sales, brand reputation and a host of related commercial concerns if the rules themselves made no major distinction between the genders as a default condition. This is wise...

    anyone else burned-out with D&D?

    I do not burnout.

White Wolf viciously attacks everyone who roleplays for fun

Ideas drive culture, culture determines politics, politics determines who wins and who loses. As it is in all things, so it is with this most trivial of matters.

    Women in Gaming Seminar

I wish that all attendees had been at CONvergence over the 4th of July to tell the WiG panelists there those very things. This link to my convention report tells why.

    Third Party D&D Settings

Third party D&D campaign settings? My go-to choices are Fantasy Flight Games' Dawnforge and Alderac Entertainment Group's Rokugan.

(Shhhhh... Have all of the "Gencon" people left...?)

Neither gaming nor GenCon for me this weekend. The crew, for various reasons, isn't willing to play more than once a month.

What is Roleplaying like to you?

Other: Role-Playing is a dynamic problem-solving exercise where the participants work under the constraints of limited resources, limited information and limited behavioral options vs. the Opposition Force controlled by the Game Master to achieve a set of objectives- some or all which may...

    Everyone have the new Dragon?

I got my copy a couple of days ago, which is about a week or two after the FLGS got it, and that's been SOP around here for a year or so now.

Paladins doing trade-ups of their mounts?

So long as I can summon a Celestial Chocobo (thank you Dragon #323!), I'm happy. :)
