Why D&D Should Be More Like WoW

The smartest thing that can be done to speed up character creation is to do one thing that WOW gets right: make all characters of a given race and class have the exact same set of initial ability scores, and track it that way through progression. The player need only choose race, class, Talent...

    D&D 4E 1st level 4E characters are already Heroes

They'll copy SWSE and just throw in a two Hit Die kicker. That will be enough.

Why so many in a hurry to leave 3E?

For all intents and purposes, there is only one D&D and that is always the most recent edition. All older editions are increasingly irrelevant fossils, calcified corpses of days dead and gone, discarded by the majority who prefer to celebrate with the living than worship the dead. In more...

    The big announcement: 4dventure

That's not the reality of how the game, now and in the past, was actually used.

D&D Needs WOW Players, Not Us

"Why play this when I can just play WOW?" is exactly the question that WOTC has to beat to make 4E a commercial success.

    The big announcement: 4dventure

I need a bulletproof answer to this question before I go to 4E: "Why play this when I can just play WOW?"

How do you deal with canon fanatics?

The selling point of an official setting is that everyone knows exactly what's there, and thus what to expect, when they sit down to play. Deviating from the canon dilutes that quality, and it doesn't take much deviation to render such a quality utterly useless- you might as well brew your own...

    Orcs: How Important Are They?

Been done, as with the goblinoids, giants, etc. so I'm not using them with the new game I'm working on now.

What would make a Good *D&D* Movie?

I spoke with the director last weekend at CONvergence. He will be at GenCon to put on an updated presentation of Midnight Chronicles. The film is now entering post-production, and Mr. Petersen (said director) already has a viable business plan for promoting the film. He's quite approachable...

Should D&D Have an Alternate Death Mechanic?

No, there shouldn't be an alternate death mechanic for D&D. PCs are just playing pieces in a glorified board game, so people shouldn't get attached to them. Grab the books, roll a new one, tune for best performance, kit him out and get back into the game right now.

    When You Keep Killing Characters?

Your players are being stupid. Change nothing. They will continue getting their PCs killed until they either shape up or ship out. This is what the game is about, and if they don't want it then they can go elsewhere.

    D&D 4E Palladium's philosophy for D&D 4e? Pros and cons

That thread confirmed what I long suspected about Siembieda: he has no idea what the difference between "game master" and "game designer" is, and that lack of fundamental understanding explains why the man can't produce a proper product to save his life.

Who Else Thinks This Chick is Hot?

That's not a rebuttal. Being a hero doesn't excuse you from acquiring the necessary traits and features needed to become competent at your profession, maintaining them while in use and improving them when opportunity allows. Not impressed. Disbelief. Not hired. Blackballed. BS. High heels...

Who Else Thinks This Chick is Hot?

The redhead with the vacant look and the sword isn't an adventurer. She's someone's love slave playing model to her master, who's an artist. The blond with the hammer? Not an adventurer either, not with those boots. Another model, probably a moonlighting athlete, posing for that same artist...

    Seriously considering dropping the hobby

This game is a team-focused glorified tabletop skirmish wargame where the best players are those that master the rules and make no bones about enjoying the virtual power trip of playing a supremely potent individual. The PCs are akin to professional athletes, with all the celebrity excess...

What ever happened to that Midnight movie?

It's currently set for a GenCon premiere, with an advanced trailer (and likely more) screening at CONvergence this July in Minneapolis.

Will the Magic System be shown the door?

See those spell lists? Most of them can, for all intents and purposes, be slashed down to "Frostbolt (Rank (X))" and slapped with varying Casting and Recharge timers to scale with their effects, with each rank after the first acting as a prerequisite for the next one. The teleport-style...

What do you prefer? Long home campaigns or Adventure Paths with an end?

Full 20 level Adventure Paths. Without a perceivable end-point, campaigns inevitably fizzle and die leaving all concerned without satisfaction. Campaigns must be just that, campaigns, with firm start and end points with clear, obvious goals dotting that path to act as both way-markers and...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

As much as I dislike what's been done, it's been done and the entire thing is a done deal. It's not a question of stopping it, but instead of how to cope with and adapt to what this decision does to the gaming world (and my part of it).
