D&D 5E (2014) Traditional or Historial Arms and Armor

Somewhere in the middle I'm happy to keep to D&D's happy anachronistic list of weapons, armours, and gear. I'm a fan of more esoteric, fantastical equipment, but that's not going to fit in every game. Therefore, I'd go somewhere middle of the road (ie, anachronistic and fantastic, with a nod to...

Would this work? Half-elf Dilletente question

Dragonfrost is fine for a half-elf to take with dilettante, and all parts of the power apply. So you now have an encounter power that works as a ranged basic attack. You can use implement powers with any implement you are proficient in, be it staff, dagger, rod, ki focus, a weapon, or even no...

The Adventures of Royal Homeland Constabulary Unit 27

I've got to say that I love reading about your party's exploits, though I think I'd tear my hair out if they were my players.

    "Meanwhile In The News"

They are quite awesome! I'll likely be using the website to write some personalised ones for my group as we proceed into Digging for Lies. My game's on hiatus for a while as I settle into my new job and get my DM mojo back.

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

Ah, it seems I misunderstood your point. Sorry about that. Hopefully we'll get what we need soon!

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

Customisation is never a waste if it fits what you want to to, conceptually and mechanically. Having convergent ways of making the same basic concept isn't a bad thing, in my opinion. It's one of the most appealing things about the proposed modularity.

Healing Fully With Rest - Is It Really That Big of a Deal?

For the bulk of the games I run, it doesn't really matter either way. I do like to run more survivalist or gritty-type games from time to time. I'd prefer a slightly harsher natural healing mechanic, since I'm great at tweaking existing mechanics, but worse at creating them whole-cloth. That...

    Multiclass Healing

Warlords (including hybrids) get access to the Fight On paragon feat which can bring back the parity with full healing, though.

Digging For Lies - Ziggurat Rainbow Puzzle

Thanks for the clarifications, Ryan. It's really helpful to be able to talk with the creators of the products you're using. I am slightly colourblind, so I was wondering if there was an issue at my end. :D

D&D 4E What's the best balance in a 4e session between time spent in and out of combat?

I get rather bored with extended periods of over 50% combat, but spikes of heavy combat sessions are fine. 1/3 to 1/2 combat is the sweet spot for me as an average. The actual average changes per DM in our group. Myself and one DM mostly stay within that range, one has about 2/3 combat, and the...

Digging For Lies - Ziggurat Rainbow Puzzle

First of all, I'm really pleased with the adventure, and am looking forward to running the party through it in the next couple of sessions. Unfortunately, I've run into a roadblock with this encounter. Two minor things to start with- the encounter states there are 8 Implanters, but references...

D&D 4E What's the best balance in a 4e session between time spent in and out of combat?

I voted 1/3, but it's more like 40% combat. It also varies per session, so the 40% ballpark is just an average over 4 sessions or so.

Adventure layout question - redundant ship rules

A seperate Quick-play book sounds like a great idea, certainly for ease of access. Unfortunately, I also can't give any feedback on them, as the party has pretty much ignored the smuggling sub-plot in favour of the other plot threads dangling in front of them. In between Dying Skyseer and...

    Poll: Starting Point for Campaigns

Over the last few years, it's been 1st level for campaigns. For one-shots and single adventures, it's more varied, though never above mid-level. I've found that the current edition allows for the reasonably robust 1st-level characters that I like to have. In previous editions I tended to...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Sense of Wonder in 5E

That's a great solution, unless 3 of your 4 regular players are also DMs. Like my group is.

ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST- Taking out Lorcan Kell

Well, it is true that the PCs have an inflated sense of how much Kell trusts them. The leiutenants certainly do not. Great idea for proving their loyalty by killing the "attackers". For the turf war, I can definitely see there being consequences. The forces being brought together aren't...

ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST- Taking out Lorcan Kell

I've been impressed by my groups good sense of when to fight and when to work with others, even in when dealing with people the law of the land disagrees with. After an action-packed night, my group's loyal constables are now calling in all the favours they've earned to try and take out Lorcan...

    Worn/Accessory Arcane Implement?

Only thing I can think of is getting hold of a Pact Blade Spiked Gauntlet or Wrist Razor, but that would mean losing out on incendiary, of course.

Top end of +N weapons and armor?

I'd like D&DNext to reflect how awesome my character is, not how awesome his magic doodads are. All the same, I voted for +1, since I'd like for there to be a simple option for swords and armour, as opposed to flaming, holy, etc items. D&D should not factor PC magic item bonuses into monster...
