    B/X Campaign Development

Does B/X have magic item creation rules?

    10 years of ENW

I think that would be pretty cool, myself. How many people are still around who were here from the beginning? I didn't join until well into 2000, IIRC. Most of the other mods were here before me. I've always thought that shooting interviews at GenCon with the intent of making a video would...

High magic, low magic, it's all relative.

Hopefully, that's not necessary. My experience is that I gave out more powerful magic in the 1E/2E days than I did in the 3E days. I gave out more bulk magic items in 3E; lots of +1 rings of protection or +1 amulets of natural armor - the Big Six that was just there to make the numbers add up...

High magic, low magic, it's all relative.

I played in a game where one player was carrying around an artifact-level sword on his back from 1st level, and never used it for fear of what it might do to him... My personal preference is for fewer items, but with a little more power and flair than was the case in 3E.

Forked: GTS - A need for "A robust system that handles things outside of combat"?

PS has played a lot more 4E than I have, but I'll take a stab at it - if I wanted to house rule a class or create a new one in pre-4E I could do it in a page of text. Now I also need to invent or appropriate 30 levels worth of powers (how many pages does each class take up in the PHB?). The 4E...

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

This is a little off-topic for this thread, but is WoTC/Hasbro doing anything special in this regards? As a former film-school kid, this topic always interests me - and the thing that always strikes me is that WoTC should be approaching this from the same sort of angle that Marvel Comics used...

Ratio of male:female gamers (was forked "DDM: Chicks not in chainmail")

My current campaign has a 5:4 ratio of male to female participants. That's an outlier for me personally, though every long-term game I've run since 1994 has had at least one woman.

Whatever game this refers to, I'm never playing it again. Whenever I figure out who is responsible for whatever this is about, they'll be dead to me.

Campaign Wikis are A lot of Work!

It depends on how much leeway you give your players - at the very least I could see player backgrounds and so on. I've got one player who likes to take my maps and dice them up in Photoshop, adding towns I've mentioned but not added to the map, or adding notations like known areas of pirate...

Weather -- when does fog appear?

To give a couple of examples - around me, it gets foggiest when there's been several days of rain soaking the ground and then the temperature increases markedly - the moisture evaporates and is visible in the form of fog. It can get very dense sometimes. The second foggy situation I encounter...

Interview time - what do you want to ask WotC about their new pdf policy?

This partly off the main topic, but this might be a good place to address it: There's some conjecture that the ban on PDF's is intended to drive buyers to purchase hard-copies in order to shore up sales of 4E. Implicit in this is the idea that 4E sales have not been as strong as 3E sales of...

    The iPhone Will Kill D&D

Hey Hong! Long time, no see! I think the point would be that the rules could be extremely complex, and yet totally transparent to the players. You could achieve a rules-lite experience at the table while having a ridiculously involved system behind it.

    The iPhone Will Kill D&D

The way I see it, tabletop RPG's have potentially three things going for them: 1. In-person interactivity. Nothing beats sitting down at a table with your friends, in person. If your friends are scattered around the country or world, however, that's a little different. 2. The processing...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

I think there have been enough mod warnings in this thread - I've threadbanned you. Everyone should know this - personal attacks are not acceptable.

    Grenadiers

You could also create clay pot grenades with nasty non-explosive things in them - think oozes and so on. Toss a pot full of gray ooze at some one, and watch them squirm. At least one 3PP book has grenades as a weapon (2d6 dmg, 5 ft blast, 10' range increment IIRC). The standard grenades types...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder overhaul suggestions, pt. 2

The Dispel Magic issue seems to boil down to two things - its too complex, and its not necessarily all that fun. The two are related, of course. How about something that treats Dispel Magic similarly to Dispel Evil, with smattering of the Shield spell? For example - you cast the spell, and it...

    Iterative Attacks

OK, so just to be sure I'm getting this straight: A Ranger (or any fighter with 2-wpn fighting) would look like this: 6th level (2-wpn fighting) +2/+2/+2/+2 (+6 BAB, -2 to attack for multiple attacks, -2 for 2-wpn fighting, extra off-hand attack due to Improved 2-wpn fighting) 11th level...

    Portable Hole as a trap

The implication is that your stuff is going to be in the bag, not you. Being tossed through a rift into the Astral Plane is not itself deadly; though being there long might be. I'd probably give some kind of award as if it were a trap of the appropriate CR; at last CR equal to the party's...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Encounter Design Simplified

I know, logically its the same thing. I think I can get it with shields better than simple armor - you can become more skilled at using a shield, but armor is just kind of there. Here's an example of my concept on weapons - to give context, one of my ideas to reduce magic items is a bit of...
