    Dextrous Fighters?

A lot of people doing this take a few levels in rogue to get useful abilities like evasion and sneak attack, as well as skill ranks in Tumble and other mobility-related skills. In fact, I'm usually inclined to take Rogue as the first level just for the skill ranks. J

Seconded. I kept looking for something like this, and I was thinking I was going to have to write the damn thing myself. J

First Level Adventures Are The Hardest to Write

While you're looking at Freeport, Death in Freeport might fit your bill. There are low-level undead and an evil cleric, but there's a good mystery that keeps it from being cliche. Similarly, Of Sound Mind may feature goblins, but it's got enough twists that the goblins are almost incidental. J

    Essential Feats?

Not if the only time you make Concentration checks is when you cast defensively. Plenty of DMs only remember to ask for Concentration then. To be fair, the feat was originally designed when Skill Focus only gave a +2, and it was much better in comparison there. J

    Deragatory Terms for Warforged?

"Tool" is too perfect, so I'm not going to suggest anything else. For derogatory names aimed at warforged by fleshies, you might try "clankers" or "bucketheads".

How does a chaotic society function?

Whoah...are you saying that one can't have individual rights unless it's written down in a bill of rights? What about the 9th amendment, then? J

    RPGNow and the competition . . .

But it's the sales to the public that keep the companies interested in buying from you, isn't it? Where's the amateur and semipro section in Barnes and Noble again? I was in there, and all I saw were sections like fantasy/sci-fi, mystery, cookbooks...I think that's the fear that some of the...

    Science Fiction Reading Suggestions

If you like hardish Sci-Fi, you might try Michael Flynn: Firestar, Rogue Star, Lodestar, and Falling Stars. Sort of reminiscent of Heinlein, big on the rah-rah for space exploration, makes you want to get us back up there. If you like posthuman stuff, try The Golden Age, Phoenix Exultant and...

What I love about this game

I got two pounds of walnuts. Shelled. My inlaws really have no idea what to get me. (To be fair, there was also a nice fat check. But still...walnuts?) J

Fantasy Organizations - What rules to use?

Eh? It is? I could have sworn I saw it (or something like it) in various city books. (Not that that is definitive, of course.) J

Fantasy Organizations - What rules to use?

When I'm looking for information about an organization, I'm looking for the following: A general 'type' for the organization (is it a trade guild, a mercenary troupe, a secret cult). Size of the organization as a whole, and as a 'typical' chapter/cell/local group. Also, their scope - is it...

    Farmboy Saves the World!

Heh...Star Wars, anyone? The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings? Loyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles? Or even the myriad Shannara books. And for the 'people from our world', don't forget C.S. Lewis' Narnia chronicles. Anyway, it's a fairly common literary metaphor for 'coming of age'. I suspect...

Illusions: So you failed your saving throw...

Generally when my players make a saving throw vs. illusion they notice something 'not right', with that error sometimes being visual. I think I had a group of illusionary duergar be discovered by the fact that they were placed half an inch too low and intersected the floor, like a clipping...

    RPGNow and the competition . . .

Why not let the sales decide that? If the industry really doesn't need more of the same then...they won't sell. If you notice, I covered both possible cases - where they replaced the current tags and where they did not. I remain unconvinced that it will help people make money. I'm sure...

Illusions: So you failed your saving throw...

Here's how it would go: Mitch engages the illusionary orc. He gets no save because he hasn't interacted with it, so he treats it like a real orc. When he attacks it, he is interacting with it, so he gets a save - basically, to see if he notices something wrong with the illusion. He...
