    M&M stacking powers

I'd say that the obvious solution is to not give them a sword that is powerful enough to be +15 - the same way that they can't get Telekinesis +15, or that a D&D character can't cast 5th level spells at first level. Alternately, play in a PL 15 game. Or get the GM to houserule the sword. (If...

    Dervish with Whirlwind Attack feat

Read again, shil - the Dervish Dance ability lets you take a move action during a full attack action. Since WWA uses the full attack action and not its own special type of action, by the rules these can be combined. WWA uses separate attack rolls for each attack, so it seems like when using...

    Rules for a 17th century pirate-related game?

You should check out the repair section again - you can only do 'battle repairs' if you have 50% of your structure points or more remaining. Once you get past that point, you're into field repairs (or port repairs), which take days. J

    M&M stacking powers

In M&M, you can have a force field and armor at the same time, and they both add to your defense, up to the limits set by the campaign's power level. In HERO, you can have a force field and armor at the same time, and they both add to your defense, up to the limits set by the campaign's power...

    M&M stacking powers

The PL limit in M&M is the exact equivalent of a Damage Class (or Active Point) limit in HERO - do you regard those as an "inherent flaw" of HERO? I'm not familiar with SAS, but I would be very surprised if they didn't have some similar mechanism. J

    Rules for a 17th century pirate-related game?

Excellent. You know what would truly rock? A three-way cooperation between you, Fiery Dragon, and Skeleton Key Games - deck plans, a sheet or two of pirate and sailor counters, and tiles to construct the ships at battlemat size. J

Scout missing disable device in skill list?

Very true - but I think the main objection is that the class doesn't live up to the description: "she can find and disable traps as well as any rogue". If that sentence weren't in there, then it might be odd to have them without Disable Device, but it wouldn't be a glaring error. J

[Comp Adv] Master of Many Forms & Transmutation immunity

I think it's more a matter of internal logic than it is of power. It's easy to see how being able to change your own shape might make you immune to polymorph. It's much harder to see how that would make you immune to people trying to turn you to dust, or being stopped in time, or having...

    D&D 4E Would 4E be Popular?

I bought 3.0 because it was so different from earlier editions that it fixed a lot of the problems. I bought 3.5 because it was still mostly compatible with 3.0 and it fixed some of the problems. Of course, each of those had (has) problems of its own. Really, I don't know that I'd buy 4.0...

If you wanted to go with the Grim Tales core ruleset, you can get the ship rules from Skull & Bones at RPGNow, along with advanced and optional ship rules - look for the PDF called Corsair. J

    Theories of magic IYC

It's perpetually on my "to read" list - I couldn't get into it the last time I tried. In brief: the party's chief foe, a necromancer trying to break the wall of death (there was no resurrection due to a systems malfunction) actually managed to do so, but one of the party members who died with...

    Stat and skill increasing items

I agree that if magic is freely available, the stat and skill boosters are too cheap - but I tend to run a fairly low magic item game because I want the characters to be more important than their gear. 3.5 made a step in the right direction with the raised cost for skill items, but I'm not sure...

    Sudden Strike vs. Sneak Attack?

The ninja sudden strike ability shouldn't balance exactly with the rogue sneak attack, because the ninja gets all sorts of other benefits. If you gave them full sneak attack they'd pretty much outrogue the rogue. J

    Do we really need Monks?

Speaking of non-Oriental-styled monk replacements, the Midnight setting from FFG has the Defender, which makes for an excellent one. (It's also got the Wildlander, an excellent non-spellcasting ranger.) The defender takes the monk back to its basic origin - someone who has learned to fight...

    Theories of magic IYC

In one game I ran, clerical magic was having access to the network of computers and Clarks' law level technology that was originally put in place to terraform the world - like GAEA, the Global Agricultural Engineering Authority. As clerics advanced in level they would be granted more user...

    The Complete Sneak?

Remember when people were dead certain that Complete Warrior was going to be about the NPC class? It'll die down. Anyway, none of the other proposed titles capture the wide ranges possible for rogues and bards, let alone the other classes. Complete Shadow? For bards? Shadows don't sound...
