    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I don't know. I could see an argument either way or that it's not connected at all. I can't imagine they'd make that kind of fumble after what looks like nearly divine levels of luck and good choices for the last decade. The exclusive content is all cream and extras rather than the main draw...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

They've explicitly said as much in a few places. I can't imagine they wouldn't have a long-term live play using Daggerheart. Especially with how well it's selling. There's no better advertising for it than them running the thing on a stream. Whether that's the "main show" or a "secondary show"...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I keep coming back to monster design and comparing it quite favorably to D&D 4E. I do really want something like Blog of Holding's MM on a Business Card for Daggerheart. Looking at the encounter math, you cold always opt for the +1d4 or static +2 damage to monsters to get 3xPCs battle points...

I really hope there's that kind of lead time.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I'm glad they're putting stuff up, but I'm surprised at the pace. The core set had its limited release on 20 May and its wide release on 3 Jun. The first Void post was 20 May with two classes. The second Void post was toady (24 Jun) with two updated classes, two new classes, and a dozen...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Absolutely fair. Though that's only what there's video of. Despite running D&D for a living, Matt doesn't just play D&D. He's talked about a bunch of the other games he enjoys and plays. It's probably a very safe assumption that he's played a hell of a lot more D&D 5E than any other game, sure...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Yeah. That's weird. In talking up the game they keep saying stuff like Daggerheart is designed to facilitate how they play or want to play...and yet Matt just runs it as if it were D&D. But, then he did the exact same thing with Candela Obscura.

    D&D General D&D Variants Forum

Since the reshuffle I’m getting error messages for every thread I’ve tried outside the D&D forums. Including the meta threads…which is why I’m posting this here.

    VTT/online-play Etiquette and Horror Stories

It comes down to whether it disrupts the game or would be considered cheating regardless of the format. If you're preventing others from having fun, that's a problem. If you're cheating, that's a problem. You left off one of my biggest pet peeves. People feeling the need to police others'...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Far more likely they are bots. Much cheaper than paying someone. The dead internet theory strikes again.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've tried to do that, too, but in response I get "you're intentionally trying to confuse it" or some such nonsense. Some people think “AI” is so amazing, so perfect, so awesome that any mistakes it makes must be user error or people lying about it. We are so completely screwed as a species.

New Tunnels & Trolls first look at UK Games Expo.

Absolutely the same. I was over the moon about 2E and not really sure about the changes for 3E, but once I saw what they did, I fell in love all over again. Over the Edge 3E is one of my top five all-time favorite RPGs.

What are you reading in 2025?

Reading through a stack of new books. Mutual Aid by Dean Spade. This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed by Charles E. Cobb Jr. How Nonviolence Protects the State by Peter Gelderloos. Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins. And Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin. I might be in a mood.

Yes, just like in any war. That doesn’t change the fact that she has nothing to be repentant about. The colonizing army could have simply left. They could have not brought their loved ones to a colonized world. Any collateral damage is 100% on them. Again, look at history.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Yeah. It’s far more about tone and mood and punishing mechanics than actually, honestly scared players sitting at your table. You don’t want people at your dining room table to be scared. Creeped out, unsettled, etc yes absolutely. People do weird, stupid, and potentially dangerous things when...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

They almost added ascending AC to 2E but chickened out. Most if not all the changes were house rules lots of people were already using for years by the time 2E rolled around.

She has nothing to be repentant about. She was a freedom fighter. Pick any country and look in its history you’ll find plenty of examples of people who are called freedom fighter by the people they helped liberate and terrorist by those they fought against. Any of the former colonies of the...
