What would you like to see happen with FR?

Sure, but I don't mind new contents (even continents) and radical changes as long as it 1) is done consistently and not just retconned and 2) doesn't push out more stuff than it adds. 4e FR failed on both counts, IMO. My point was that it's not the canon that matters per se, but the...

What would you like to see happen with FR?

Sure, but the point of this thread is what they should do in 5e. They can continue with just the spellplague. That doesn't mean you can't play how you like, but in that case they won't sell it to me or, I suspect, a lot of other people who disliked SP. Personally, I don't mind setting changing...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e: Stat the Lady of Pain...so we can overthrow her

I find it annoying when an otherwise good book wastes a lot of pages statting deities, like the 3e Faiths and Pantheons. I doubt many of its buyers used them even once. IMO the pages would have been better used on high level priests than the gods themselves. Those I would have used.

    Make Race Matter

So you are saying the opposite of what I thought. Changing modifiers to work like that would make the cap work worse. However, I don't think we have any reason to believe they would want to change the modifiers like that.

    Make Race Matter

Sorry, still not getting it. How would an ability score bonus be more important if the resulting modifier was smaller? Ok, for your definition of 'few' I agree.

    Make Race Matter

I disagree with 2. and 3. - a cap makes race matter more both with and without them, assuming 1. Even many increases from level and items don't overshadow the racial bonus if you can't go over the cap without it. I'm not sure what you mean by 4. Could you explain? On 5. I agree, except it's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Levels and Spell Levels - what's your preference for 5E?

With 20 levels it's much harder to remember which level a spell is or which spells are on a given level. It worked with 4e powers, but probably wouldn't with a traditional Vancian system. Nine levels is a bit high too, seven might be better if inventing them from the ground up, but it works ok...

Scaling: How many level 1 characters should it take to defeat a level 10 character?

Ok, in theory if you extrapolate beyond the supported range of levels. :) I haven't played enough 4e to know what happens with more extreme level differences, but I know it doesn't work in 3e. For example, 24 1st level wizards don't have much of a chance of hurting a 10th level wizard with...

Scaling: How many level 1 characters should it take to defeat a level 10 character?

By the formulas it is 20-24 for 3e and 5 for 4e. In practice neither works that way: 3e DMG says not to use more than 12 creatures (7 levels lower) and 4e no more than four levels lower, because the encounter level system doesn't work with that large differences.

D&D 5E (2014) 5e: Stat the Lady of Pain...so we can overthrow her

So you can't defeat Bob the Barkeep, retired adventurer turned serial killer, because the monster-hunting manuals don't tell you which level he is and what his stats are?

    Make Race Matter

Capping is a way to make racial ability modifiers more important (if they affect the cap), and is in no way contrary to making ability scores in general matter more.

    D&D 5E (2014) The math of D&D Next; a moderating proposal

I think monsters, NPCs and PCs should be based on the same math. Hence, I meant both ways, assuming PC fighter against NPC fighter. Other classes can have somewhat different to-hit chances. That doesn't mean you need to create NPCs as PCs (but you can). It also doesn't mean there can't be a lot...

    Races you play the most

Human, dwarf, elf, half-elf, halfling - in that order. IIRC, I've played a gnome and an aasimar once each and never played anything else. I mostly DM.

    D&D 5E (2014) The math of D&D Next; a moderating proposal

Yes, but you only need to increase one of damage/BAB to accomplish that. When considering the OP proposal, that function is already covered by BAB increases. I prefer a system where defense and damage are kept fairly static, while increases are mainly in attack and hp. That way fighters grow...

Scaling: How many level 1 characters should it take to defeat a level 10 character?

I would like additive power levels. About ten 1st level characters to match a 10th level one, but only two of those to match a 20th level one. Fast progression at first, slower once the sweet spot is reached. I don't have much hope that 5e will work like this, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) The math of D&D Next; a moderating proposal

I think JonWake (sorry if I'm wrong) may have meant the function of hp *increases*. If hp and damage have the same progression, there is no change and the increase has, IMO, no function.

    Something Awful leak.

It's a class feature of the general Fan class, as well as specialist fans like the D&D Fan.

What would you like to see happen with FR?

Well, if you like to read novels it's not as if you can pick the setting. So the readers sort of have a stronger interest in what happens to the setting.

    Iconic D&D Clerics (Blog)

Heh, that's almost exactly the opposite of what I think the classes represent. Paladins are always a part of one of their deity's Orders. Even when they are traveling without contact with their church, they have a place in the rigid hierarchy, superiors they would theoretically have to answer...
