GMs - Do you get bored when you're a player?

The guy playing the tank basically checked out and didn't fulfill what he needed to do in the game. Wouldn't move into position, wouldn't take reactions to help when allies got attacked. He basically zoned out during the sessions. Eventually, he dropped the game - it was obvious he was...

GMs - Do you get bored when you're a player?

No. Well, at least nothing that anyone else in the party could do better. Sneaking, persuasion, opening locks, fighting - my character had no niche that someone else in the party couldn't do better. There was no mystery as far as "let's figure out what killed these guys - Doc, do you have any...

GMs - Do you get bored when you're a player?

Maxing out healing skills in a system that ends up having healing checks happen during downtime - so your character might as well not go on the adventure at all. This was in Numenera, where a key component was supposed to be recovering lost devices, figuring out what they do, and using them...

GMs - Do you get bored when you're a player?

I tend to think of myself as a "GM-player" - like someone who tries to see what the GM is doing and support the other players and making that fun scene occur. For example, encouraging others to take the quest, or if there's a fun encounter planned, for us to engage with it. Other than that, I...

GMs - Do you get bored when you're a player?

As someone accustomed to being a "Forever GM," I find myself growing bored when I'm a player. Having one character with one action with potentially minimal impact in a combat, waiting until my turn comes around again, possibly fighting a creature immune or highly resistant to my attacks - it's...

Hasbro Hit With Layoffs, Wizards of the Coast Impacted

My thought is that folks like the guy who just left were the ones who "wrongly" (in the view of the legal team) empowered the content creators to show the book. Of course, as a content creator, you know more than any of us about how this works. I'm saying only that - as an outsider - a company...

    Best Horror Role Playing Game

Just coming in to say Dread. I have seen more people nervous, sweating, screaming, and jumping out of their seat in one 3-hour session of Dread than in an entire Call of Cthulhu campaign.

Hasbro Hit With Layoffs, Wizards of the Coast Impacted

I mean, they just boasted that they released the biggest product in the history of D&D. Clearly, money isn't the issue. What it seems to me is retribution for "Blurgate" since they took out the guy responsible for interactions with streamers.

    D&D 5E (2024) Flanking no more in D&D 2024?

I mean, Advantage seems too much of a benefit for flanking. But flanking should do something. I guess the dream of any nods to tactics are gone in 2024. Just easier to scrap it than try to fix it? That takes away a couple points of my enthusiasm for the revision. I suppose I'm in single digits now.

D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

I don't use spells like Sleep or Hold Person in modern era games. It's the whole "roll a save each round" to end it that I don't like. I'd prefer if it had a secondary effect after you successfully save that you then have to save against. (Like your attacks have disadvantage or attacks against...

D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 Is Hilariously Broken. Most OP of All Time?

I'm just gonna wait until all 3 core books are released and the fans take a look at them before I jump to any conclusions. I've gotten over the initial period of FOMO about not being an early adopter of 2024.

Free League to Release Path of Glory for Dragonbane

This announcement was made like a year ago. Some copies are already in the hands of the public (I've seen them).

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

I'm the Darklord in my own Ravenloft Domain of Dread, cursed to run unsatisfying games for my players.

Mongoose acquires Twilight 2000 and 2300 AD

The Black Madonna (Aug 2024) and Hostile Waters (June 2024) are two big campaign boxed sets they released recently. I think I would be helped if the main box had an adventure included. There are some random encounters, but nothing like the 3 adventure sites included with Forbidden Lands or the...

Mongoose acquires Twilight 2000 and 2300 AD

I have the latest edition of TW2000 from Free League. It looks like a wonderful product. I was looking through it last evening because I have some organizers who'd like me to run it at a small, regional con in January. And I just can't get out of the mindset that it's an RPG basically about...

A Tour of The Largest Hobbytown in America

So many memories at our local Hobbytown. Decent selection of GW stuff, a variety of RPGs. It was going to move into an abandoned movie theater as well - a 2 screen place in the same shopping center. Then a fire came and gutted the movie theater and destroyed all the stock at the Hobbytown. So...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e Remastered for the 5e players (+)

Start them on easier encounters. The Beginner Box does a fair job of introducing things gradually, but you can really lean into this. Plan an encounter where the opponents flank to show the importance of off guard. Or demoralizing. An enemy that has a special weakness that can be learned by a...

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

I think that it hit me, after looking behind the curtain, that my core memories were all artificial. Every epic moment was scripted by some dude at TSR. It might be a "no duh" moment for many of you, but it's really shattered my rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. I've been asking myself for...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

Agreed. I don't know why a business wouldn't keep a core product in stock. It could be that D&D releases didn't seem to fly off the shelves, so they are "stuck" with a bit of product. They do have copies of Van Richten's Guide that have been there since release date (they put the date on the...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

So this is strange... I've visited my FLGS a few times in recent weeks to see if they have the 2024 book in stock, how many copies, etc. And ... they're apparently not carrying it. They have a large D&D section with multiple copies of nearly every book you can imagine. However, they did...
