D&D 5E (2024) Are we going to see DMG previews?

My FLGS made a Facebook post to tell everyone they had the new PHB sitting on shelves and then had a very long description that the book is a new (but not actually) new edition and tried to explain it. To be fair, somehow all copies were gone when I went there today. Maybe they sold them on...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

They've shot down my suggestions for boardgames, from Descent to HeroQuest.

It's about whether you're a passive or active player. Are you there to participate or be entertained?

Level Up (A5E) You Can Grab TWO Level Up Bundles Courtesy of Bundle of Holding!

I picked up the Starter and Bonus Collections and I'm looking through them this morning (I already had the core books from the Kickstarter). I've been sleeping on A5E. High quality stuff here.

I'm still not too cool for HeroQuest.

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Hey, I enjoy battles and like a fast-paced game too. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I'm some major storyteller DM. But there's things I'd like players to be able to do after 6+ months of play. For example, 1) Name one fellow party member. Maybe have an idea of how their character might...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

In our conversation, my wife asked if she's a "bad player" - as if liking combat and butt kicking is a bad way to enjoy the hobby. Does she bring anything to the table? Does it matter that - while she loves playing - RPGs aren't her main hobby and she doesn't spend time on forums or reading...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Thanks everyone. I do get to play in online games: one Pulp Cthulhu and the other Pathfinder 2. There was a time I was also running online for those groups, but other players lightened my load. I've been lightening my load on the in-person game. Just going from a more crunchy system to...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

I know some of the Borg games but haven't looked into Forbidden Psalm. I don't think I've ever come across Lumen. Another potential rules lite tactical game I may consider later is Strike! For now, we're going to forge ahead with Dragonbane. I'd say we're at a 66% satisfaction level currently.

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Characters get at least 2 "floating" skill trainings that they can apply to any basic skills, regardless of their class. (Perhaps more, depending on their age.) Heroic Abilities (kind of like Feats) can have less impact in combat depending on your class. Those can be swapped out with GM...

D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games Next Crowdfunding Project: Terror of the Underdeep

My prediction: a reprint of all their 5E Fantasy modules in a boxed set.

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

I'd say that there are definitely some options that are less immediately helpful in some games, depending on how they're run. Like a merchant that never visits towns, a mariner in a desert, etc. However, the characters are largely skill focused, so as long as you have relevant skills, you should...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Had the talk about the game with the players tonight. Story gamer is loving it. My neighbor is coming around. My wife had a couple fun moments but overall isn't a fan - is willing to stick with it as long as others are liking it.

The original conversion did start that way. Me: "Hey, in a few months we'll be getting to a natural end of the 4e campaign. Half our players are going off to college, so I'd like to end that campaign on a high note for them. After that, we can transition to a game that's less prep for me that...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

I run games Sunday nights, which are apparently appreciated by players before they start a week of work. In the past, it's also been sometime I looked forward to. (It is a tradition going back to other groups going back to when I was in college.) If not RPGs, maybe I can alternate one week...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

We have our weekly session tonight, which is going to start with a conversation. I need to plan my points. I'd like to start with "this is what I liked about Dragonbane and why I picked it." I want to address "why did you even think we'd like this?" If they can see what I like about it and...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Yeah, @Aldarc, FU is definitely in consideration. I just felt I needed more time to learn the system and prep something since I've had the books less than a month when I started preparing the Dragonbane game, so I marked FU as a "down the road option."

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

The person I've spoken to the most about this is my wife. Her suggestions have been 4e, Pathfinder 2, Rifts for Savage Worlds, and 5e as a "good enough game - not her favorite but she'll do it." My issue with most of those is that I don't have the headspace to run weekly sessions of 4e, Rifts...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

That was my situation before three of the players left for college. Now, just the adults remain.
