I feel like there's a finite amount of good organization per edition of the core rulebooks and one of them has to get the short end of the stick. In 2014 it was the DMG. This time it's apparently the Monster Manual.

I'm not sure why that's relevant? A weekly show obviously has more staying power in a top ten list like that than a movie.

I... dont' think it's actually either of those things in general. Like sure upper level 3E with optimization gets insane but the average 5E character is tankier, melee is way more robust, and spells deal far more damage.

The last time I had a situation where retreat was the best course, most of the party didn't listen to me and it was a TPK. Those of us who actually tried to retreat got downed by OAs.

Hm... I haven't had any instances of this at all, though I haven't started DMing a new game since well before BG3 launched.

In my experience, WOTC adventures hide the railroading by having certain things occur no matter what the PCs do, whereas Paizo adventures just railroad you by giving you no other options.

In practice 4E plays a lot like low to mid level 3E at the table. Building a character is a different beast entirely because there's no/few trap options depending on your source so it's not really feasible to make useless or super OP characters.
