D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

Aside from the debacle with the VTT, 4E had really good online tools for the time. The Insider monster tool worked so much better than D&D Beyond's homebrew monster creation and could even take a creature and level it up or down or change it from a standard to an elite or solo.

D&D General Demons (or whatever) in 2024

Not to advocate piracy but why is that certain third party tools are so much better organized than WOTC's own stuff.

Level Up (A5E) How do these maneuvers function - New GM

One funny thing I could think of is to use Slight of Hand to replace a material component for the spell they're about to cast with a different one and cause the spell to fail or do something weird due to having the wrong component. Good luck casting fireball when I replace your sulfur with a...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

There's far less text for each monster in the new book, similar to how MPMM cut down a lot of the monster lore from Tome of Foes and VGM. More statblocks and more/bigger art instead.

D&D General What does Arcadia look like?

Thanks to the show Joan of Arcadia I generally imagine it looking like a small town in Maryland.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

On one level I think that's only a natural consequence of 'demon' and 'devil' being common words for fiendish enemies whereas Yugoloth is a made-up word with non of its kind even in the SRD. But for individual games, it depends on how important the Blood War is to the campaign. I kind of prefer...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making Monsters

I think the 5E DMG rules are a bit nuts, particularly on the upper end. Even actual 5E monsters don't follow them. I'd definitely lean on the A5E rules more. I don't have the TOTV Monster Vault so I can't comment on how those are.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

I tend to think of Yugoloths as the ruthless capitalists of the underworld. They only care about the Blood War in so much as they can profit from it.

Wait actually with the exclamation point in the stat block?

Astarion Makes Another Cameo Appearance in 2025 Monster Manual

Maybe he's just busy or doesn't like D&D as much. Neil Newbon is a fan from days of yore and nerded out when Mark Hulmes used Drizzt. in a AP.

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

Lol I wrote that message hours ago, realized you had and didn't post it, then posted it by accident just now because the forum saves drafts.

Wot? that is the exact opposite change they made to all the other cases!

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

The poison damage on the bow is a bit much but (crits are going to kill characters) but it's otherwise pretty much the same as the 2014 version: 18 AC, 11 HP, 13 average melee damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

Reorganizing the DMG only to make the Monster Manual a mess. Like I don't even disagree with some of the choices, like putting Gelatinous Cube in G and the Werebeasts in W, but Yugoloths are one of those monsters that you're probably not going to use unless you first know what the heck a...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

The difference between a fiend and an evil aberration is that a fiend is doing what it does because what it does is evil. Evil is its nature, whether lawful, chaotic, or neutral. Aberrations do evil things for reasons that are either alien to human thought or divorced from our notions of...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

Gygax will never live that down. Mostly because he's dead, but even if he weren't. :hmm:
