D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

To clarify, because it needs to be said, to do it without at all any mechanical concern about effectiveness, whether justified or not. Apologies for being a little... high strung. I thought I was clear and not to bring too much personal stuff into it, I'm going through some stressful stuff...

D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

You're talking in circles. In my opinion this naughty word would be solved if the game adapted a structure matching Level Up 5e and Pathfinder 2e to make it possible to use whatever class and whatever ancestory together, without having to worry to play for or against type. I'm fairly sure that'd solve...

D&D 5E (2014) Who Picks the Campaign? DMs, Players, and Choice

I'm planning, when I am in a position to run, to give my players a choice between systems and concepts to run, which I'll have some developed beforehand (and some will be adventure paths or such). I'll have a vote and give opinions on what I would prefer, but I really want to ensure that I run...

Level Up (A5E) What's your favorite thing about Level Up?

That the encounter maths were thought out, planned, and that CR looks like it will work a lot better, with the ability to actually design encounters using the tables. That magic appears to have gotten a good balance look over and martials have been brought a lot more up to speed.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

Final post on this; I know this is getting too political for this forum, but I thought this was the best place to put this. If the view you are talking about is what Chappelle said - do you understand why people, particularly trans people, may wrongly make those assumptions, however? Especially...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

The reclaimation of 'queer' has mostly been driven less by modern culture and more so by modern LGBTQIA+ culture (which are pretty different), and I will note it is not 'universal'; it obviously doesn't cover other languages, and it's not a term I would use to refer to myself personally...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

Related to the discussion re: horcrux and JK Rowling, Lindsay Ellis posted a followup to her Death of the Author video that I think summarises the situation well - and I would think show why the comparison between offense for the use of the word horcrux and phylactery is, in my opinion, faulty...

Blog (A5E) A Sneak Peek At Magic

Hope questions are okay to put here: if I am reading correctly - A5E has fixed the strange issue around spell focuses in O5E where just material and somatnic (and not pure material) spells could use spellcasting focus - and has made it possible to use Seen (formally somatic) spells while having...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

Perhaps you may want to reconsider that statement if you haven't kept up with it lately. Coming from a fellow (not out, trying to maintain one's sanity) trans person, I really can't see how what's she said and done isn't objectionable. She actively hates us.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

Do note that for a lot of trans people however, Harryy Potter does remain popular to them despite JK Rowling's utterly naughty word views and actions. Taking her world and IP and away from her and making it the community's, much like taking away the Cthulhu mythos from Lovecraft, is the best revenge.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

I'm fairly sure what has genearted the most online buzz has been the whole massive issue with how Paizo has been treating staff and the unionisation effort. Outside of that, while the community isn't active here, the subreddit for Pathfinder 2e is hugely active, as is their own forums; I can...

D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

Interesting. 65% is what I had heard before, but the fact it's partly based on CR 1/4, (and the fact there exists such a thing as CR 1/4... the labelling of levels / ranks in CR is quite setupid in 5e), and that bounded accuracy helps a lot here just... I don't know. Now it's bothering me for...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo drops use of the word phylactery

Yeah; looking at how Level Up 5e handles the names and does exactly that, it seems strange to me Paizo didn't do that when they changed 'Paladin' to 'Champion'. Especially since Barbarian and Monk have much more name issues than 'Paladin' (Paladin isn't accurate and is a very specific word, but...

D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

Here is a simpel question, asking about 5e Creature rules in particular (I don't have the rules for them): against a typical monster and encounter, with no bonuses or penalities applied, what is the expected chance to hit against a normal creature? What is the game designed and balanced around...

Level Up (A5E) So where do ya'll plan to start with LU?

I'm going to read the books around playing and dungeon mastery first, and then try to see if I can start getting players and starting to see if I can run a campaign in some world. Looking forward to it.

D&D General 5E Survivor: Named Dragons - BAHAMUT SHINES!

Can I upvote them all? I love dragons. Don't hurt my dragons. ... sure I don't know half of them but. Dragons. :c

    D&D 5E (2014) New D&D Survey, with some in-depth setting questions

My understanding is that Drizz't led to a stereotype of players playing very similar characters to him, and indeed the archetype of the dual wielding ranger.

D&D General Lolth Miniature Coming In February 2022

Oh yeah. To be clear, I wouldn't do anything like this IRl unless I'm sure someone isn't acranicphobic. It's not cool. I just adore spiders. Though cute ones mainly tbh.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Survivor - 5th Edition Survives! [+]

Hard to know, but it certainly seems it would have really consolidated the 1st Edition vote heavily, and 3rd and 4th a little bit; if I understand things correctly 2nd Edition only covers AD&D2e and 5e obviously only covers one version, so they would be a little bit disadvantaged. It also...
