    Homebrew Poisons

Here's a thought: Why not unify poisons and diseases under the same system? Yes, it means you have to ditch the ongoing poison damage effect from ordinary poison (although I would keep poison as a damage type and probably keep most monster poison attacks as simple ongoing damage). The disease...

    Heroic Heritages

Another option is to look at the Gnoll feat Swift Bite from the latest Dragon, which represents your "bite attack" as an extra +1d6 damage vs. bloodied foes. That keeps it useful all the time and doesn't bog things down with extra attack rolls. As an aside, I really like your setup here. I've...

    Anemic Horses

Umm--how do you get 68 mph out of 10 ft. per round? That's 100 ft. per minute, 6,000 feet per hour, or barely more than 1 mph. Even if you assume a double-move pace (which is harder to sustain), a Speed of 2 is right around 2 mph. Even unencumbered, a riding horse's speed of 10 (50 ft. per...

Item level as a function of character level

You should really take a look at Adventurer's Vault. :)

    A Paladin's Challenge

When you mark a target with Divine Challenge, you have to either attack that target by the end of your turn, or end your turn adjacent to it. If you don't fulfill one of those requirements, the challenge ends. In your example, if you attack one target, then mark a second target, you have to use...

Crit modification level 12 and lower?

These are what I get for assuming that a pdf search for "19-20" will find me everything. :-)

Does Ranger's Disruptive Strike grant combat advantage against me?

For the sake of argument, though, if he did have combat advantage, maybe from Bluffing you or a flanking ally or something, it would still apply to his attack, giving him a net -4 to hit.

Crit modification level 12 and lower?

Thunder Smite (paladin 7) can do so if the target is marked. That's it as far as the PHB goes.

Does Ranger's Disruptive Strike grant combat advantage against me?

Seeing as how attacking someone armed with a ranged weapon doesn't give you combat advantage, I'm inclined to say no, he does not get combat advantage--unless the critter had some power or ability you aren't telling us about. ;) I suspect you're confusing "grants combat advantage" with...

    D&D 4E Grid-less 4e?

I haven't, but if I did, I'd probably just roughly gauge distance by "melee, close, near, and far" ranges or something similar and have forced movement powers just move critters into different "range bands" and say that one move action is usually enough to close one range category (or vice versa).

    Making my first character

Sure Strike is...really not good. It's less terrible for the fighter than its equivalent, Careful Strike, is for a ranger, since fighters don't have Twin Strike, but Sure Strike is still one of the worst at-wills in the game. IMHO, if you're using a shield, you can't do much better than Tide of...

    Making my first character

Remember that the fighter multiclass feat allows you to qualify for any fighter paragon path. You can play a ranger, and as long as you take Student of the Sword sometime before 11th level, you can take the pit fighter PP. EDIT: Curse you, garyh!!! ;)

    Making my first character

Elven accuracy does not have the Ranged keyword, nor does it specify ranged attacks. For that matter, it doesn't even have the Weapon keyword. Any power that uses an attack roll can benefit from the power.

    Making my first character

In that case, then, there's really no effective way to make an unarmed fighter. :) You really should, at least a little bit. 4E is a lot more focused on the role each character plays in the group than previous editions of the game were. It's probably a good idea to get a feel for the...

    Making my first character

There's nothing stopping you from making a fighter who fights unarmed; unarmed strikes count as a weapon. However, by RAW, you're going to be hurting pretty bad on both attack bonus and damage. You might want to check out the Character Conversion article for the Monk, which presents a means of...

Quandary! Can I do a “Pirate” campaign with 4th Ed as it is?

This leads to the exact same MAD problem as "just remove heavy armor altogether." In order to match the AC of a paladin wearing plate (the expected AC of a 1st-level paladin) a paladin in your system (in which the highest heavy armor has a +3, equivalent to Hide) needs to have a 20 Con. Even for...

    Spellmage Sword Burst questions

That's what I thought, but I wouldn't get home to check my book for another 5 or 6 hours. So, DracoSuave, the answer to 2) is no. :)

    Spellmage Sword Burst questions

I don't have my FRPG handy, but off the top of my head I don't recall there being any Spellscarred at-will powers. If my memory is correct, then the answer is no, because Dilettante only lets you learn an at-will power. If I'm wrong, then barring an explicit ruling to the contrary, the answer is...

    Spellmage Sword Burst questions

As others have pointed out, the dilettante power does not give you access to the implement use class feature of the class that power comes from. If you want to pick an implement power for your Dilettante racial ability, you should also take the multiclass feat for that class, which does allow...
