    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

I mean, this is what I've been saying all along. Most players won't think its worth taking...so they won't. Its a part of the balance. And I actually liked how some spells practically needed a "DM ok" before letting things go. What I'm saying is that EB isn't even the best of at-will damage...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time understanding how you have a fighter create a magic weapon and not be magical in their own right. That's like if the wizard cast a spell and the DM counterspelled and the wizard goes "oh, no. I didn't cast a spell, I just used my knowledge of magic to create a...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

If it turns your sword into a magic sword, it is the result of magic. And honestly, why not just give the fighter a straight increase in attack and damage rather than turn their sword into a magic sword? "As the paladin falls, decapitated, the cleric runs to his side. With tears flowing down...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

And this is where rules being skipped over for simplicity probably comes from. Where do you buy a statuette of yourself? We'd assume you'd have a craftsman make it for you. But is the assumption that it would be done the same day? Because if the craftsman is following the crafting rules in the...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

It can be once we actually get rid of the few spells that "just work." Its important to remember that drawbacks can be added to spells to keep them balanced and quite a few have them already, but not quite enough. There was a time where casting was more difficult and punishing but WoTC...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

All of those things are reasonable and aren't really on the edge of magic except the +3 magic weapon fighter. What I'm saying isn't that martials can't have cool things. I never said that, but they shouldn't just be magic by another name and we all close our eyes and pretend its not magic...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Sure, maybe you don't find those broken, its not like I don't see them often. But spells like Shapchange, Gate, Create Undead, Contingency, and Forcecage are all imfamously powerful spells that don't consume their components. But were they getting it as a treat on the side or were they...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

You could argue its "divine" logic such that a divine being could attempt it. But a level 20 character is not a god in D&D. And, notably, the ability to do those things are often attributed to magic. They don't have to be adventures just as summoning a God doesn't have to be a single spell...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

I don't know... If a player took Magic Initiate Eldritch Blast, I'd be more inclined to agree. But typically I see it being dipped into for two levels because Agonizing Blast turns it from okay to extremely good.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Well, yeah. And that's why it was more balanced in general. Nobody took spells like Plane Shift or Imprisonment mostly because nobody really wanted to bother getting them, unless they really wanted them, in which case that can be delegated to downtime. I mean, I think casters have too much...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Though, it's important not to let things get too out-of-hand otherwise the themes and default assumptions of the game can change dramatically. Stealing someone's wallet without them noticing is a funny trick. Completing an entire heist by yourself flawlessly is a near impossible feat. Stealing...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Wow, that's very different from how we play our games. I imagined that the weird requirements being a PITA to gather was the whole balancing factor. Like, sure, you can easily buy cheap and common materials, but even 2000gp of ruby dust is impractical to just purchase in a day without the DM...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Its not really the price itself that had me concerned. Its usually how out-of-the-way actually getting the material required is. Sure, you might be able to convince a DM that the jeweler has a pearl or ruby dust, but its much less likely that they have a minitature prison made out of jade or a...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Yeah, but now sorcerers have access to almost the same spell pool as wizards, which changes the dynamics by quite a bit.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Yeah, I forgot that simulcrum consumes its material. But a spell like Imprisonment is actually free for the sorcerer to cast. Also, very notably Forcecage. Yeah, in fact, now your Sorcerer can go from Forcecage to Imprisonment for the extra cost of 2 sp.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Hey, uh...has anyone noticed Subtle Spell gets rid of material components...that also come with a cost... Meaning that for 1 sorcery point, you can cast spells with high cost material components like Simulacrum, scrying, or plane shift.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

I don't necessarily agree. I think EB is good for the warlock but what makes it great isn't that its above all other cantrips, its because it interacts so well with the warlock's base class. Right now, most of these spells barely have interaction with the sorcerer's class. Incarnate only...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is character creation at higher levels quick/easy or slow/complex?

It depends on what class is being picked and what the player's mastery of the system is. If you have a player that has played the game since the edition launched and chooses, say, an assassin rogue, then the most time-consuming aspect would probably be writing down the features themselves...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

This is just speculation, but its possible that they can give other sorcerer subclasses an ability that can make sorcerer's incarnate useful. Maybe, a shadow sorcerer can do things like debuff the enemy using spells without concentration once a day. Or whatever. What I'm trying to say is...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

I suppose that would be fixed by giving that specific feedback. Although, if the shadow sorcerer isn't getting a damage boost, they might not have been intended for damage anyways.
