    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I should clarify that I don't think current Epic Boons are enough to even be called "Epic." So they'd have the same effects but have the prerequisite of 11th+ level. The true epic boons would be much more epic.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

Sorry if I seemed rude, I liked the general idea its just that I tend to not like the exhaustion mechanic specifically. I do think a 15 min SR with no HD restoration could possibly work.

D&D 5E (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

Idk if I like the 15-minute rush. Seems counter-intuitive that a character could get more exhausted by taking a short breather than if they had just kept going.

D&D 5E (2014) High-level wizard taking about an hour to change one spell?

So, I was reading the PHB's wizard class thinking about what I would like to adjust, but then I re-read a paragraph I admittedly barely read over the first time. I'm sure many of you read this as "1 minute per spell level for each new spell on your list." But that isn't what it says. It seems...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Well, I get that they want martials to excel at combat without having to strategize too much, so I think having some extremely powerful epic boons would help and moving the current epic boons to maybe 15th or so level. I want an epic boon where for three turns in a long rest, the martial gets...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I'm not opposed to better feats either. I would hope, then, that we can push WoTC to add more and impressive feats to the game that lets martials do more powerful stuff if they want. I don't want all martial compatible feats to be exclusive to martials, but I do want the majority of them to be.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Well, if you're going to do that, are you going to allow feats to be partially the means with which that is fulfilled. Because there are still feats that would be difficult for casters to just grab like those that require a specific class or proficiency. For example, it would usually take a...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Okay, look. It seems like we're not going to come to an agreement in this matter within the next 100 pages of this thread, so instead, can we agree that in terms of player experience, a character using a fighter will be more versatile, harder to kill, and deal more damage than if they made a 5e...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

That's also not the information you're providing, though. If you wanted to know that, you'd calculate the difference of a fighter and caster from 5e and the difference of the same classes from OneD&D. The information you're giving can't be used for comparison for the casters because you'd need...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I don't know, is it? What value does that information bring? What are we supposed to do with that information? And if you really needed to know, wouldn't it be better to compare the OneD&D fighter with their subclass features vs without? Jumping from one edition to the next isn't a reliable...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

What I'm saying is that the subclasses are too tightly nested into the base class to try to really say anything about them isolated. Some base classes are weak and have strong subclasses. Some classes are strong and have weak subclasses. That dynamic might not remain stagnant across editions...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

What about 1d12 weapons? We don't really have many 1d16 dice lying around.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

This is what I'm so confused about on why flex is getting compared to irrelevant masteries. To clarify, what we're looking at isn't a comparison to graze or cleave when looking at flex. We're talking about flex vs slow vs topple. Only one of which actually adds any actual damage at any...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

There is no 12th level base fighter. That's not how the class system works. Nobody really cares about base class v base class because we're never going to play like that. A player isn't going to stop playing and go "yeah, sure I'm effective because I get an extra feat due to how races work...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Actually, the base fighter's unconquerable makes them almost impossible to keep down as well. If they make a saving throw (including a death save) and fail, they can reroll with a +15 (insta-success) and heal 1d10+15. That's pretty difficult to kill if you ask me.

Smacking someone 1000' within 10 minutes with a hammer is actually pretty impressive for a first-level fighter.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

If you're a strength-based fighter, which is fairly common, you'll want at least three weapons: a main weapon like a greatsword with all your feats and such. Then you'll want a throwing weapon for maximum ranged damage. Then you'll want a longbow for maximum range in case the enemy is more than...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

They don't have Heavy Armor, which had received quite a big buff as the Heavy Armor Mastery feat now lets martials reduce all incoming BPS damage by their PB for every hit. The Ranger would need 2 feats for that. As well as the natural advantages of having higher possible AC with heavy armor...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Didn't realize Paladins had ranged attack support in the newer UA. Good for them. They didn't in 5e so that was my assumption. The Ranger wasn't mentioned so I didn't bring them up, but yes, they also have good melee support (the default is ranged). Though they aren't as tough as the other...
