My FLGS sold me the Red Box early.

When I do finally get my Red Box from my local premium store, I think I'm going to have to pop open a Big Red to celebrate. Yeehaw, y'all.

My FLGS sold me the Red Box early.

Man, it's Friday night in Austin, TX, 3rd most important city in the world, and I still don't have a Red Box. What gives?

A Marine encounter? In the middle of the forest?

    Monster Vault

Bears are hermetic. Only the wisest sages know the arcane secrets of Bear Lore. The monsters you really have to watch out for are the hermeneutic ones. They all speak German and no one has any idea what they're ever talking about.

My FLGS sold me the Red Box early.

My local premium store doesn't have it yet. *sniffle* As an old schooler, I've oft been accused of "nostalgia". Man, that could really get me up on my hind legs. But this... yes, this is a nostalgia purchase. I freely admit it. I am interested in the content, but also the magic of the Red Box.

    Mike Mearls Ruined Everything

    EN World = RUINED.

    D&D in Target?!?!

Yeah, support the FLGS. They need every edge they can get in a world of online discounters. The FLGS is still important to the hobby.

    Mike Mearls Ruined Everything

Great. Now Mearls has ruined philosophy.

    D&D in Target?!?!

In honor of the Red Box's provenance, I declare this development to be "rad".

    Mike Mearls Ruined Everything

The sad thing is, Mike Mearls is going to ruin Mike Mearls next. And that means he will have jumped the shark, which will also ruin sharks.

    The Pinnacle of your Collection

My White Box original D&D. I have everything crammed in there except Blackmoor (haven't secured that hardcopy yet). But basically, the White Box is D&D in its raw form and totally gameable for the rest of your life as your only RPG. Runners up include the Moldvay/Cook Magenta and Cyan boxes in...

    Essentials Magic Missile

It really seems to be an assumption based on the system, not a system based on that assumption. I still don't see any evidence for it. If that's how you want to play it, that's cool. But I don't see how it follows from the books. A minion is a minor character that does not even necessary have...

    Essentials Magic Missile

Ah, but I don't believe that. Those statblocks aren't in MM4. There's the Daikaiju Citystomper Minion, L35, and there's the Daikaiju Nukelizard (Level 38 Solo Artillery). And there's the Daikaiju Hatchling (Level 10 Elite Brute). And that's it... that's all there is. Those Level 19s and 24s and...

    Essentials Magic Missile

But what if it's an AC 50 Level 35 Daikaiju Citystomper Minion? Like you could kill it at Level 1 and then you'd be like Level 10 in an instant. Of course, those 9 levels could all be pure ego....

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

Yeah, it's a fine line though. If it turns into Corporate: The Whoring, people might actually stop buying it. No brand is essentially evergreen. It is possible to kill the goose what lays golden eggs.

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

I'm pretty sure that's how it will end up working. Gamma World is using the same model: you get commons, uncommons and rares. I think it works for the new Gamma World because of the gonzo, non-serious approach ("Oh no, I don't have the Atomic Nosering card... big deal"). For D&D? It seems odd...

    Gamma World unboxing

I'm looking forward to that box. It looks like a ton of fun. The new Gamma World is obviously a cartoon/comic book, which is fine. Even 1e wasn't completely serious, what with rifle-toting bunnies and all. Though you could ignore that and run it seriously if you wanted. I'm not bothered by the...

So, Dark Sun: It's officially out. What do you think of it?

I like how one of the main adventure hooks is a note calling on all adventurers or whatever... on Athas, where most people can't read.

    Goodbye

Being a hero in real life is way better than being one in D&D. You can totally be a hero to your wife and it will be worth all the suffering along the way. Vaya con Dios.
