Order of the Stick, 521 [merged]

In a comedy story, anything that's funny can't be filler. Half the point of the story's existence is to make people laugh.

    OotS 518 is up

There's evidence that Tsukiko buffed before she teleported in; she told the wights that they had their buff spells on, and why wouldn't she buff herself at the same time? Just because we don't see the effects doesn't mean they aren't there. She could have had Stoneskin cast, explaining a...

I really don't understand people's obsession with Rich being "fair" to a particular character class. It only seems to apply to the paladins. The paladins aren't the heroes of the story, they're background characters. Who cares if they're treated fairly? They exist to make the villains look more...

Well, if you actually base your opinion of the comic on how closely Rich follows a round-by-round combat format, you probably should give up reading. He's never really worried about it before, and the strip used to be a lot more closely tied to the rules than it is now. ----------------- As...

Given that she's cast both 5th level cleric and 5th level wizard spells now, she is a minimum of a 3rd level cleric/3rd level wizard/6th level mystic theurge (12th level total). Though since the OOTS are 13th level in all likelihood, Tsukiko is probably also 13th level, to provide an even challenge.

How to stop a druid from wildshaping?

OK, my mistake, I was remembering older editions. I've never played a druid under 3.5. However, that just means that my point applies to shield bashes rather than sword strikes. If touching a shield against their will saps their powers for a day, then someone just needs to hit them in the arm...

How to stop a druid from wildshaping?

It would be trivially easy to wildshape into a chimpanzee or lemur, remove the now-loose irons from his hands and feet, then change back and cast whatever spells he wishes.

How to stop a druid from wildshaping?

The only problem with the metal armor bit is that if one interprets that restriction to be one of obedience and adherence to a taboo, there's room for the player to argue that his god (or Mother Nature) would know that the armor had been forcibly placed on him--and by that arguement, he ought to...

Help me devise a My Little Pony game.

    Don't put Twice-as-Fancy Ponies in...everyone knows they're totally unbalanced.

Any chance you could edit out or spoiler that punchline, given that many people come to these threads to use the link that leads to the comic (i.e. before reading it)? Since said link wasn't in your post either: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0514.html.

What WotC employees are getting for Christmas!

Given some previous years, I expected the answer to the thread title to be "pink slips". Glad to see I was wrong.

    Help me capture my party.

I'm going to slightly buck the trend here. If the encounter is: 1.) A legitimate Encounter Level for them (i.e. no higher than, say, EL 13), 2.) Comprised of resources that the villain would logically have working for them, 3.) Not built with the specific abilities of the PCs in mind, except...

    OotS 512

The part that annoys me is that RICH doesn't think he's exempt from criticism, it's mostly just his fans. He's said a bunch of times that he understands that not keeping a schedule costs him readers, and he's made his peace with that. He is willing to prioritize his health over his business...

    OotS 512

Assuming of course that none of the three high-level spellcasters probably in that tower (Redcloak, Tsukiko, or Xykon) teleports there instantly. Or teleports a few squadrons of undead and mid-level hobgoblin fighters there, at least. An organized fighting force can respond using magic in ways...

    OotS 503!

She could just be the comic relief for Team Kubota, since the noble himself seems pretty humorless. We don't know that her crush on Elan will be treated even remotely seriously, it could all be for laughs.

    OotS 503!

Speak with Dead requires the corpse, which is back in Azure City.

    OotS 500

It doesn't appear that the gods are actually involved in any way with the Blood Oath. It is an actual binding spell, like a curse, and the person who helped him swear it was not a cleric (by any stretch). I don't think it was as simple as "I forsake the oath!" or Eugene would have done exactly...

    OotS 500

Eugene swearing the oath is shown explicitly in Start of Darkness. Suffice to say that it makes more sense once you see that scene.

    OotS 500

Exactly. Shojo and Eugene are both abrasive and sneaky and underhanded about their methods, but Shojo was self-aware enough to know it and cop to it (at least to non-paladins). And he was doing what he did for the good of his city (and the world), not his personal comfort. That's why he's...
