The Best Way to Dispute a DM

Of course the upshot is, it is time to learn Charm Person and use it on his bag guys ....

The Best Way to Dispute a DM

I think you are taking the right tack, and applaud your patience. Stopping combat to dispute the DM, even when the DM is wrong, is a big no-no in my book. Assuming 3.5, did he win the contested Charisma check?

This is the money question. I'm interesting in finding out as well.

Can two forces be in conflict, both believing themselves to be good?

Still haven't heard if my PCs can preemptively kidnap their enemy's children to ensure the safety of their own get, and it probably isn't worth the trouble. Bowing out of the discussion that I've hand in leading off topic, but not before quoting this sig-worthy snippet: Alex, sir, tonight I...

    Threadkiller

Everyone claims to be a 'killer, but none of you are pulling it off. Amateurs. I'm waiting for a real threadkiller to show up.

Can two forces be in conflict, both believing themselves to be good?

But he's not trying to avoid it. He knows that it is wrong, and is refusing to do evil to accomplish good. How much evil will you permit him, in order to accomplish good? Can he kidnap and threaten the villain's child, to save his own kidnapped child?

Can two forces be in conflict, both believing themselves to be good?

A lawful good paladin's analysis of the scene might go like this: 1. The bad guys kidnapped my child and will hurt him. This is an Evil act. We must act! 2. We found the Bad Guy and are holding him against his will (kidnapping). 3. If I'm going to take the next step of hurting a powerless...

Can two forces be in conflict, both believing themselves to be good?

If my PC were part of a holy order devoted tenets handed down from on high, and faced with breaking those tenets, I see him as having two honorable options: Leave the order he has devoted his life to, so that when he sullies his personal honor, he doesn't sully the honor of the order; or ...

Yes, but they resemble shriveled raisins.

Can two forces be in conflict, both believing themselves to be good?

I might be cutting hairs, but your paladin cited isn't "opposed to torture," but only "opposed to torture unless it is necessary," which isn't the same thing. There are at least a couple of fun ways to play a character through the Jack Bauer/24 moral dilemma: "By lowering myself to torture...

Start a campaign with a virtual table now, or wait?

It must be the holidays. This is the second thread I've seen now where everyone agrees.

    Allow Cannibalism vs. Heavy-handed GMing

The eldest is providing an example for the others. It is his responsibility to be a good example. If the player starts using his PC to antagonize the other players (who are probably too young to emotionally separate player and PC), he needs a kind, but firm discussion alone. If he chooses not...

    I am truly heartbroken

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

I liked the old 2 for 1 trades in the Otus-cover Basic D&D.

Wow, do I hate rolling for stats!

Your PC dies of plague at the age of 9, due to a low Con score. Continue to roll characters until you beat 15 points in the point buy. There is a lot of value in low-stat PCs, but not if the player isn't excited about them. It should be a fun game, after all.

How many EN Worlders are within 100 miles of you?

Fat zero. And over 200 miles to the closest gaming store (but I knew that already).

    Intelligent Weapons?

I've always liked the idea of them, but in play they've either been an annoyance or weak comic relief. When you whip out Blackrazor you want to devour some souls, not have an argument with the weapon twice as smart as you. I'd love to hear anecdotes of intelligent weapons that worked in play.
