Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

If it indeed has more involved PC generation and leveling choices than 5e I will give it a go.

What do you love about your favorite edition that ISN’T rules related?

I really liked the 4e cosmology - especially the feywild and shadowfell. It felt like it was something really well integrated into the monsters and races but offered a good range of story telling possibilities, largely because the planes was separated from alignments. I liked the great wheel, I...

D&D 4E [4E] Which classes would you prefer to see in a clone

For me it is the big 4 plus bard, paladin, ranger and warlock. I am happy with the avenger and warden being subclasses of the paladin, barbarian and warlord being subclasses of the fighter

    Giving out More Feats

I would prefer to give out an additional feat at first level rather than splitting feats up. I agree they very dramatically in power and utility, but I like the idea of allowing characters to be more customized earlier.

    D&D 4E How To Clone 4E Using 5E Rules

I think I agree. It is easier to port 4e ideas into the 5e framework than to revise and update 4e. Mainly because there are a few optional rules inspired by 4e in the 5e DMG (eg marking) and core 5e ideas like hit dice and the inspiration die could be tweaked more closely to healing...

Magic Items Preference: flavor, or mechanical bonus?

As a player I would rather survive than be cool, so give me a bonus.

    Favourite D&D edition that’s not 5E

While I played a lot of 1e and 2e, I think 4e is a my favorite edition. It wasnt perfect and I understand why many people did not roll with it, but I really appreciated the new take on D&D and was ready for something different when it came out. I really liked the variety and unpredictability of...

What is missing in 5E that you had in other editions?

I do miss some of the things and ideas from 4e, especially the more complicated/surprising monsters, more tactical options for martial classes and more options for customizing character. One thing I notice that I miss in 5e are out of turn options in combats. I know the could slow things down...

    Back after about 29 years

Sorry, but you gotta read the editions you missed as homework before you begin!

Do you want Greyhawk updated to 5e?

I would like to see Greyhawk updated and explained for a new audience. I played it with 1e back in the day so I dont need a simple reprint - I dont see the point of that as it is already out there. So I would like to see someone sympathetic to previous iterations of Greyhawk include some of the...

Sneak attacking undead and constructs seems wrong

Non issue for me. I think their ability comes from overall perception to see weak spots and vulnerability, not just their knowledge of anatomy.

Why do people still play older editions of D&D? Are they superior to the current one?

If you play previous editions for 'education' (rather than fun), I think the value of doing so is that it will give a you a better sense of the strengths and limitations of 5e. I have played all the editions of D&D and I think 5e's success is capturing the good elements of many editions, and...

What are the most interesting bits of D&D/RPG Jargon?

My favorite is 'rolling up' a character. We still say it even in the context of point buy, set equipment and fixed hp when we start a campaign.

My return to TTRPG w/ 5e, reflections after 5 years

While I started playing D&D in the early 80s, I never lapsed in the sense that I have played every edition since then (though I did stop playing for several years towards the end of 2e). However, 5e has enabled me to reconnect with some old friends who did lapse and it has been a lot of fun...

90% of D&D Games Stop By Level 10; Wizards More Popular At Higher Levels

Is there any data there about how many people play WOTC adventures vs homebrewed adventures? If most people use WOTC adventures, then this data is not surprising at all - it is simple product of the adventures they supply (which seem to all top off at 15th level). I am trying to get my head...

Mike Mearls Talks Greyhawk in Lore You Should Know

I really like Greyhawk because it was my first campaign world back in the days of 1e. However, I dont quite understand the desire to just more or less reprint the original setting. I already have a copy of that. I quite liked some of ideas I saw in From the Ashes (but I never played in that...

How to Make the Fey Less Twee

I havent thought of fey as cute or twee for quite a awhile. Fey in 4e were quite alien in terms of motivation and scary in terms of ability in our campaign - I think the lore in that addition had a great range of darker story potential. I also quite liked the WItcher 3 computer game which took a...

Feature or Bug: D&D's Power and Complexity Curve

I dont think it can be categorised as a bug for me - but I notice it. While I like the zero to hero dynamic, I do agree that the speed of the curve in D&D (in most editions) can be too fast for many stories and can stretch believably is key ways. I find in 5e that the way progress stresses hp...
